Admittedly, mild cheddar is, as it says on the pack, mild and is usually soft and rubbery but Cantal jeune is no better. I don't consider either of them as a good contender in the cheese wars.

Cantal vieux is better both in texture and taste but can't compare at all with a lovely strong mature cheddar.

Potatoes have been grown here for nearly 500 years and I think that, apart from being used for salad potatoes, you can't beat a good King Edward's potato. No, the EU didn't try to ban the King Edward. They only said, wrongly, that it was not a good potato as it wasn't disease resistant. They withdrew that statement.

Chillies are, now, also grown commercially here in the UK. One farm even grows them outdoors in Suffolk and they are also grown commercially under cover in Northumberland. In the chilli world Britain is well known for breeding new varieties of chillies

I think it was Raymond Blanc that was doing one his shows and said that, in his opinion, British cheese was the best in the world... and we have more varieties (not that that's measure of how good something is of course) to choose from
Personally, I quite like all of them!
