@JWK Absolutely! Seed suppliers are robbing people in garden centres! It’s a travesty !
Seed should be cheap and have the potential to be saved.
I would recommend , real seeds, aswell , I’ve found them very good

Not to derail the thread but just to reply.. I have heard premier seeds been mentioned a lot and they are highly recommended but still yet to try them out. Real seed company not so much but will check them out too, thanks. And agreed Loki, the price of seeds in some places is absolutely ridiculous!
(Also, simplyseed were good when I used them last, good price on seed spuds and clubroot resistant stuff.)

Unless you have growlamps then I would wait Redwing. We will still probably be getting a cold snap to set them back. Later sowings will overtake early ones that have been checked.

You’re probably right. I’ll wait a week. No grow lamps or heated greenhouse for me, just a sunny SE window and a cold greenhouse. But looking forward all the same!

Only just caught this thread. I did a Google spreadsheet for taste, etc last year which has some data in it but needs a lot more, just PM me to be added

EDIT: I think I've actually lost some data of this but maybe I misremembered adding it in! In any event the sheet is here - Tomato Taste

As usual, I won’t be sowing until mid March. This year I’ve decided to grow in large sunken pots in the greenhouse. This saves the need to remove the soil from the border or use growbags that I’ve found problematic (watering). I’ll only be growing ‘Sungold’ in the greenhouse, but still not sure about what to grow outdoors.

I've got one gardeners delight germinated, only sowed 3 but even so :mute:
I've got one sweet million germinated, see above :mute::mute:
3 Roma have germinated out of 6
4 sungold out of 4 seeds, good old sungold :blue thumb:
My intention this year is to grow fewer varieties and plants, I guess my seeds are just helping me out :dunno: :heehee:
( little do they know, I've got lots more seed ;) )

Partly through morbid curiosity and partly because I have plenty of seeds I decided to play about and sow some tomatoes last weekend and will sow more in a few weeks time to see the difference. I will be giving a lot of the plants away but will keep some of the early sown toms for comparison against those sown in March. They are in the prop but with no additional light. I'll transfer to the heated bed in the tunnel once germinated to give them as much light as possible.

It's wonderful to see you back @lolimac ! I can only add to what Spruce says, that your Dad would be very proud of you. You will always think of him each time you see, touch, smell or taste tomatoes.

Germination action already with the 2 x JWK and Chiltern Gardeners delight seeds. Also have germination from the Bulgarian Buffalo Heart seeds. I wish all seeds germinated as readily as tomatoes
