    Yes I do remember and was a bit sceptical at the time. Last year I thought I had lost my big tree fern to the Beast from the East, I was contemplating buying a small tree fern and attaching it to the 'dead' trunk as you had done some years ago.

    I am pleased to learn your experiment worked and would love to see a photo of it now.

    It was late August before mine slowly revived:

      Do these grow well in pots? I have a couple of 100L pots I'm looking to fill

      Yes they do grow well in pots, and you could move them into a greenhouse to overwinter - provided you could lift a 100L pot!

          this is when I added the new log to the top, I cut a v shape into the bottom log with a saw and done similar with the new one and gave it a sprinkle of dry swell gell crystals to keep it moist in the joint .... I used bamboo canes like large nails to keep it attached ... [​IMG]

            didnt take long before the new roots moved into the old log [​IMG]

              Very informative @Spruce thanks. It looks in very good condition, I can hardly see the join. Did you search garden centres for a matching diameter new plant?

                I took the measurements and asked for roughly the same size girth from
