@kriss it would help us if you were to put your area in your avatar box please. :) Climate is different all over Britain and your area of Scotland may well be different to mine. My daffs have been blooming for the last two weeks.

I've been working my way through half a ton of soil clearing out rocks, stones and roots. It's slow work!

        That's bad luck.

That's the problem at the moment. There can be quite a fluctuation in temperature.

I have the same situation with our tea-house where I keep my vinyl jukeboxes. It's just an unheated shed. They like to be at "room temperature." If it gets cold, the oil in the motors and gearboxes thicken up, so if you run them they can activate the circuit breakers. If they get too warm, it doesn't do the capacitors any good.

I keep 60w lamps on inside them and cover them with insulation during the winter, but on days like today with a 12ft square roof the building can really heat up.
I was playing golf today, it was sunny but I still had a light sweater on over my shirt as the wind wasn't too warm . When I came hope I opened up the tea-house at around 3.00pm and it was very hot in there.

I'm going to to open up the roof vent tomorrow. I prop up the front end of the top cover with a mesh screen "thingy."

Uncover the two meshed vents at the bottom of the rear wall.

And put the extractor fan on timer.

        P1000685.JPG

You'd think that would be enough, but if it's even a bit warm I'll have to open a door during the middle of the day.

The heat certainly is surprising @Doghouse Riley You look like youve really thought about the set up in your gardenhouse!

I was shocked at the heat today-the conservatory was like an oven even though the blinds were down and there is a proper roof on it. Could hardly breathe when i walked in!

Sowed carrot, spring onion, beetroot seed today. Watered gh plants. Got more compost for mulching and mixing with mpc, grit, chicken pellets etc for planting up containers.:)

Beautiful day marred (only slightly) by my nosey neighbour, on a ladder, accusing me of cutting his bushes. When I went nose to nose with him he turned into the wimp I consider he is. “It’s Clare (his wife) who’s complaining not me” he whimpered. Anyway, I had cut no more than I am entitled to. The guy is known for being challenging but I guess he knows now not to bother me:) Bullies are usually cowards....they dont like it up ‘em to quote Corporal Jones, dad’s army:yay:

In the sun here it must have been 17 degrees or more ....even warmer tomorrow apparently
A pod of dolphins seen locally too....might go have a look tomorrow:)

Despite the fact I have maybe 50 or more plants in 5 litre pots and larger to plant out, I will pop into local nursery as I pass by on my travels :noidea: Well! You’ve got to:)
Missing the overnight frosts down here....pretty cold though....so my tender plants are largely safe outside now. Will put out a few more today :)

That's the problem wwhen you go to nurseries or garden centres, plants can sometimes "follow you home."
Well they do us, when we've just gone for a look.

This working afternoon lark seems to be working out ok. Yesterday morning I collected a trailer full of free gravel. It isn't a big trailer so it didn't take that long to do. This morning I emptied it out onto the drive. There was only enough to fill in the ruts left by the car tyres. It will take an awful lot more to completely cover the whole yard. I will keep an eye out in local ads. Any time free gravel comes up I will whizz up there and grab a trailer full.

This morning I fed and watered everything for the first time this year. I made a mark on the calender so I can keep track of what I've done and when.

Lastly this morning, I chopped my aster into 4 pieces. Each one has been given it's own pot while it recovers. I have decided to plant them in the front yard. I will wait until the daffodils and alliums have died down. I am thinking of interspersing them with aubrieta to maintain year round interest at the front of the border.

                      G.

Close of play on Corral Day 3. Main structure lined - mostly to protect that side of the decking boards from the elements, but also in case this becomes a vegetable bed in future.

                          corral3.jpg

Four more 'posts' left to go in, though they're mostly decorative at this point as the whole thing is solid, to match the braces on the top piece. Then a trip to the shops to pick up another roll of Gorilla Tape to seal the top edge of the liner and some netting to keep the bugs and birds out.

In the meantime, I have a cup of a tea and a football programme that needs its final edits ready for the weekend.

Gardening at my Dad's today...boy was it hot!!
Spent 4hours ( 10 till a 2pm digging up Ground Elder from just one border!!
Then an hour removing it from the border around his smaller pond!
He did only have it on one side ...up until now......it's now absolutely everywhere!!!
                            What have I taken on:yikes::dunno::sad::cry3:!!!!
Have still got the rest to tackle !:thud:

I was so hoping to give him a colourful summer....but sadly I think I am being too optimistic now. Even all the Wallflowers that I had planted last autumn are definitely not flourishing and look so weak compared to my own here at home. The Ground Elder's roots are just sapping all the nutrients out of the soil.
So depressed.....next week it will all be back!!
I filled the whole garden waste wheelie bin with the stuff. I am now aching all over.

Our weather can be so changeable. Forecast is next week a drop in temperatures.

Some time back. I used to visit a chap just to be friendly. He mentioned he'd love to have a greenhouse. I managed to get him a s/h one and errected it for him. Couple of weeks passed and I visited him again. Hey Mick, says he. The greenhouse is full. WOW! I must see this. Yes the G/H was full. Full of plastic plants. Well at least the weather doesnt bother them.
