Aye, looks like @pete won't have to buy a Fiat 500 - at this rate, that will be one of only three cars available if we have earned enough stamps in our books from those kindly folks in Brussels.

      Some of you may have noticed that I have not been on the forum much. This is in no way a reflection on any of you or, for that matter, this thread and the differing views that I have to most on this subject. It is as a result of the facts that;
      1. I no longer have a garden as we've sold the house and bought a flat. This is as a result of the fact that my partner was transferred to her banks new offices in Frankfurt and it made sense for us to downsize at this point.
      2. I have been spending time with her in Frankfurt.
      3. I have also been attending to a customers collection of classic Mercs in Taormina (Sicily) as we get them ready for the summer.
So there have been a lot of posts since I was last here and (to be brutally honest) I'm too knackered to read, digest and offer a considered response. But in general I feel for May which is something that I never thought that I would say! She is having to deal with backstabbing turds like Rees-Mogg (you know, the investment banker whose own investment company set up an office in Dublin and advised his wealthy clients that there is a risk to Brexit and the Dublin office could help to reduce such risk) and BoJo. It is Camerons mess but he has gone and crawled back under the stone that he emerged from in the first place.

Talking of Camoclown does anyone remember the ridicule that was heaped upon him when he chose The Eton Rifles by The Jam as one of his Desert Island Discs? I've been listening to it this weeks and it turns out that Paul Weller was a prophet when he wrote it! Here is the demo version which is my favourite...................

The lyrics for those who don't want to listen..................

Sup up your beer and collect your fags
There's a row going on down near slough
Get out your mat and pray to the west
I'll get out mine and pray for myself
Thought you were smart when you took them on
But you didn't take a peep in their artillery room
All that rugby puts hairs on your chest
What chance have you got against a tie and a crest?
Hello-hurrah, what a nice day, for the Eton rifles
Hello-hurrah, I hope rain stops play, with the Eton rifles
Thought you were clever when you lit the fuse
Tore down the house of commons in your brand new shoes
      Compose a revolutionary symphony
Then went to bed with a charming young thing
Hello-hurrah, cheers then mate, its the Eton rifles
Hello-hurrah, an extremist scrape, with the Eton rifles
What a catalyst you turned out to be
Loaded the guns then you run off home for your tea
Left me standing, like a guilty (naughty) schoolboy
We came out of it naturally the worst
Beaten and bloody and I was sick down my shirt
We were no match for their untamed wit
Though some of the lads said they'll be back next week
Hello-hurrah, there's a price to pay, to the Eton rifles
Hello-hurrah, I'd prefer the plague, to the Eton rifles
Hello-hurrah, there's a price to pay, to the Eton rifles
Hello-hurrah, I'd prefer the plague, to the Eton rifles

Oliver Letwin wants a re-run of the 'indicative votes' on Monday. Will the Speaker insist it would need be different options and only those he didn't previously select/completely new ones would get put to a vote? He can only select options that are substantially different.

I saw an interesting interview of the boss of Wetherspoon's at 5 a.m. this morning. Ignoring any of the points raised I liked his comment (twice) to the interviewer (whom I like) of "Did you get me in here to interview me or did you just want to give me your view of the situation?" :heehee:

He remained calm but wouldn't let her badger him.

We may have had differing views @longk, but never any ill feeling. It is truly a shame that you no longer have a garden, however I think we can all see the logic in your decision. Garden or not, it should go without saying that you will always be warmly welcomed here in your online home. I wish you the very best of luck in the future, whatever it holds.

Zero reason for a re-run. They were only indicative and they have indeed indicated! Cetainly more than a BM driver at any rate lol
Closest one was Ken Clarke's which I thought was so obvious to be required to happen in any event that I'm staggered it had to be brought to voting but there you go, this is why the government should have set out exactly the steps they were to be taking. Which they didn't. Because they never had nor ever will have a plan.

They cant get the whole deal through, but what about chopping it up and voting on that..? Is that even possible? It’s a package to be agreed and voted on not a pick and mix!

Heseltine, always was a bit dodgy, swinging the mace around etc.
and some shady deals regarding Westland I seem to remember.:biggrin:

Anyway, there is nothing new about the old voting for something that will affect the young, I seem to remember that also happened in 1973 when we joined.
And I was young then, and we have been trapped ever since.

So, do we have a cut off age where you cant vote anymore?
and then allow 10yr olds the vote.

Surely there has to be some kind of sense employed.
Some people will stop at nothing in order to swing a vote their way, in the last election Canterbury became Labour after being Conservative for years, all because students, who are transient residents were allowed to vote for Canterbury candidates instead of having to vote in their hometown.

The whole voting system is nuts and needs an overhaul, but common sense needs to be applied.

I've always thought that common sense needs to be referred to as uncommon sense due to its scarcity
