What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2019

I managed to get out into the garden today. Hells Bells, what a mess. My intention was to give my container roses a feed. These are the ones recently bought from Parkers. Then I had ideas of catching up on pruningf the ground planted roses. Never got around to that. Honestly, if any of you, my gardening friends were to see my garden at the moment. You'd say,'What a mess' I consentrated on weeding out the pots of roses and lilies. Sadly some roses appeared dead, I cut away the dead parts and who knows the graft may sprout again. The troublesom Herb Robert seems to like my garden.
I was begining to enjoy myself and I started to get hot and itchy. I have suffered from psoriorsis since my early 20's. Then around the time my cancer was diagnosed it suddenly went mad. My GP sent me to see a specialist. She said she'd arrange for me to see a doctor, odd. She was the boss. I never did hear anymore. Then with CT scans etc and infusions of whatever. My arms in particular look as if the skin has been removed. Medications cause so much pain. So my time in the garden was brought to a halt... Race indoors, strip off, cold shower and fight against screaming out. God willing. I will try again another day. However. I did enjoy the good parts of the day.

 

Chase up your GP Mike if it is causing you distress-they should be able to help you. Psoriasis runs in our family so can sympathise with you. My poor gran has suffered from being a young girl to now in her mid eighties. She found a herbal cream called Themba which she says has been the best thing in helping her-worth a google?

Yesterday went up to the lotty and constructed canes for peas and sown them. Did a quick tidy up. Greenhouse plants seem to have recovered from their baking session!

Yesterday i painted the posts which I’m using to espalier the pear trees-husband is now putting them in the ground. Painted a trellis for the honeysuckle and mr snorks attached that to the fence. Spent an hour or so painting part of the fence so about to go out and finish that this morning before a trip up to Lincoln to construct the Keter shed for mum over the weekend. Busy busy.

 

With the four finishing posts in place and the liner sealed top and bottom, the corral is finished enough to move it into it's spot in the garden. Just need to find and buy the right mesh to finish the sides off.



Don't want to blow my own trumpet or anything, but I think this might be better use of the space than the two chimney pots, an unused bird bath and the broken bench that were sat there before.

 

Mowed the lawn and trimmed up the edges of the feature beds.
At this time of year I run a knife round the brick circles to get a even finish. This with running the strimmer alomg the edge of the path, produces narrow strips of grass with roots. I use these to patch small bare spots, a bit like hair transplants!





A strimmer does produce a nice clean edge.





Our first azalea is in bloom. It's in the front garden which is North facing and sees very little sun. It has lengths of plastic clothes line attached to it, to pull it away from the house a bit. I'll remove them in a couple of months, when it's "set."



Our little acer which I pruned over the winter, is doing well. It'll get another prune once the leaves are out. It produces new foliage all through the summer.

 

Mowed 2 lawns, trimmed large euonymus japonica ((always looks good all year round as a 9’ trimmed cone)
Mowed niece’s lawn too.
Have more free time tomorrow so I have had a chance to plan moving a couple of plants.
Earlier time on the beach.....Nico enjoyed rolling in the sea and wet sand so not quite such a white fluffy dog afterward

Really nice sunny day. Decided I would go and pick up some plants from dove cottage but took a detour to a GC which stock west country Lupins , they didn't have the exact lupin ( terracotta ) I was after but did have my second choice towering inferno so got that . The 3litre lupin took quite a lot of room up in my rucksack and I had 4 more plants from dove cottage to fit in , big squeeze and I manged to fit my two 1Litre sanguisorba stand up comedian and scapino a 2L Rodgersia Bronze Peacock and finally a 9cm penstemon plum jerkum . Ended up being a 70mile round trip all for 5 plants but just getting the lupin saved £15 on P+P getting it from elsewhere.

Got home and went round to start making a compost heap for mum and pruned her roses.

Had a good look round garden at home the crown imperial fritillaria are really romping away along with a few others , my fritillaria persica ivory towers is coming up as well thank god cost me a arm and leg.

Pricked out lots of trailing petunia and bacopa windowsill are nearly full.

Did quite a lot yesterday in the garden, moved a big helianthus lemon queen as well as some phlox , planted my Clematis richard Picotee and 2 meconopsis lingholm. Mulched and feed the roses. I have a bad feeling I have couch grass mixed in with my calamagrostis karl Foerster I am not sure if CKF sends runners off are not, I may have to lose the plants otherwise.

 

Dove Cottage Perki? Used to get plants online from them but they no longer operate mail order alas. Brilliant nursery

 

It is a nice little nursery, plants are a bit different for sale compared to other local places, worth going out of my way to pay them a visit

 

I have done very little this week, as Izzy has been very poorly. Weak in her back legs, and also fighting some sort of infection. We’ve got her temperature down, and after three days, she is finally eating again.

So today, we ventured outside, and did a little grass weeding (removing the sheep’s sorrel).

Going to cut the grass and do a bit of pruning and weeding at mums today. Sun is out and it’s forecast to be a lovely day today.
