Tomorrow will be the interesting bit. Planting up baskets of Zantedeschia to go in the corners.

Does anybody have any experience of iberis sempervirens. I currently have 2 tangerine geums. While one has thrived the other one has always languished somewhat. This year I am thinking of changing the aesthetics of that bit of garden. An evergreen plant standing approximately 1 ft high and spreading approximately 2 ft across would tie the existing planting into the gravel pathway I'm creating. White would be ideal or orange or blue.

Yes Gary, I have grown Iberis sempervirens, the perennial candytuft. Grew a number of them, probably a group of 11 to 15 plants, making a matt of evergreen foliage and white flowers.:)
For full sun and free draining soil it is a delightful plant but it does need trimming after flowering to maintain density and compactness.

              Hi @Jack Sparrow ,

It's an easy plant to grow , known as a sub-shrub because of its shrubby growth.
This is mine just starting to flower....

Thanks. I'll have to have a look around. If I'm successful I will in all probability divide the Geum and offer the bits for charity plant sales. I would like that. It would give me a sense of achievement.

Spot on Caroline, it's somewhere to sit and contemplate, listen to the birds and plan On the right is a raised bed that was supposed to be a 'wave' of blue with a white crest...mostly rock/ ground cover plants and bulbs. On the left is a steep bank planted with an eclectic mix of trees, shrubs and perennials. Basically, whatever survived. Cercis 'Forest Pansy' has done well, several double flowered pomegranates, Melia azederach, Chitalpa, Lagerstroemia, a couple of Phormiums . All my colour schemes revert to blue, pink, purple and silver eventually.
It's going to be hard to resist a cliché 'Japanese' garden round those ponds!

No time to garden today but a visit to Morrison’s drew my attention to a few violas there at a £1 each. Not usually a place for me to buy plants but they were excellent quality and hardened off :) After flowering they will be divided and potted up for even better value :)

Oh @noisette47 it's not fair that you can grow such plants (lagerstroemia etc) - your climate is obviously much better than ours. But surely the pomegranate is a bright red and doesn't fit with your gentle colour scheme? Or are yours different?

Did a bit today. Well.. This afternoon after golf. I pointed up the big rocks of the pool perimeter, where necessary. Easier to do, standing in the empty pool. It's a case of using yellow powdered dye in a sand and cement mix, to match the natural colour of the rocks. Ordinary mortar is the wrong colour and would really notice. I also made two "barriers" of the same for the little waterfall. This will make three small beds and will blend in with the rockery. Far better than leaving it like this and I don't want to be messing with cement after the paving has been laid.

Pool fill-in starts tomorrow now, not Monday.
Six tonnes of ballast will be delivered tomorrow in those huge bags and stuck up our drive. They may have to order more for Friday. The workmen will be barrowing it round and dumping it in the pool. I've been told it will take them no more than two days to fill (thirty-odd years ago it took me a week on my own with a spade to empty it) and then lay a ton of dry sand and cement mix on top, ready for paving on Saturday. It's hoped that it will be completed by then.

We may take a trip over to Bents on Sunday to look for a decent water feature to sit on the far end of the pool collar over what was the sump. The mains power for the filter pumps is still available under this lid and I can have it connected so it can be operated by one of the garden light switches behind the lounge curtains. We could have an illuminated one, or just re-direct the spotlight presently trained on the waterfall.

To be honest everything we've seen on-line looks naff.. no not really..just unsuitable regardless of price. Failing to find one will prompt me to fill in this sump with hardcore then add a foot or so of soil/compost mix and stick a rhodo or similar in it.

how come you are getting rid of the pond @Doghouse Riley ?

Your garden looking very classy @noisette47 are you putting anything in between the pools ? like a giant copper bowl or a planter ?

I know you don't want to use weedkiller @Upsydaisy but it would of saved you lots of time for more enjoyable gardening projects :).

I've sowed some more seeds today, picked up some top soil and sand for top dressing the lawn hopefully this weekend but not before a over seed.
Another gift from me to me arrived today :hapydancsmil: Hydrangea Strong Annabelle .

Been a busy day gardening today. Managed to get in the greenhouse and prick out a load of seedlings. Was nice to actually do some gardening as lately i feel like its just been ‘tidying’ rather than anything else. Then i went out and had a few belgian beers to celebrate my birthday. I got a national garden voucher from my older bro :)

Had to laugh this morning...i woke up unable to get back to sleep around 4am and went downstairs and noticed a purple haze in the back garden...i was in shock! I thought aliens had landed! turns out it was my grow lights on and the light was reflecting off the mist/fog! Crikey it was so bright-i hope the neighbours werent annoyed! Needless to say I’ve adjusted the timer on it now....
