What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2019

If it is a bit spindly. I like to feed Trach and mulch in early spring

 

Planted up the last 64 garlic that i had left in the rootrainers. Very late and jammed 4 into each flower pot. Not ideal but better than leaving them where they were. Healthy looking in those rootrainers.

Just fleeced everything tender again, damned cold out there.

 

Hopefully it will have softened the ground for you @shiney . We had heavy rain on and off yesterday but with the wind being so bad it was drying straight away...ended up having the sprinkler on the grass aswell to make sure it got a good soaking! Also emptied out the pump filter onto the grass to help.

 

Yesterday I only moved things from the heated greenhouse into the unheated ones and also hooked up the low flow irrigation. Even though it was raining yesterday, I tested and fixed any issues with the watering systems in the raised beds. Today looks like the first day without rain in nearly a week and i

t's too early to plant out many of my seedlings so​

I'm going to go out after my show (Corrie sunday morning omnibus) and bread baking to just putter and maybe do a little weeding that the rain must have encouraged.

 

Continued to work on a generally underwhelming corner of the garden this morning....taking shape with acer garnet, phlox David, crocosmia lucifer, miscanthus variegatus, a scented red phlox (name escapes me for mo), astilbe cappuccino, dwarf P. Hydrangea, persicaria red dragon, astrantia Roma and more. Philadelphus Aureus and canna Tropicana Black support clematis Armandii on the wall

 

Most of today spent indoors working on the new kitchen (we have a cooker now!!!!) but managed to get a few moments to dig the trenches for the beans, fed the chickens and ferret too.

Only managed to get to B&Q early this morning to get some big bags of their compost and a few plants (20% off this weekend). Got home and couldnt find the motivation to plant them. I just sat inside feeling miserable. Tomorrow i must perk myself up.

 

Yeh sometimes its good just to stay in and look out the window to enjoy the garden rather than always feeling that you should be out there doing something.
And after doing that for all of 15 minutes its time to get back out there again .

 

I hope that you have woken up this morning after a good sleep, and feel able to step outside. Put on a warm fleece, grab a mug of tea/coffee, and wander around your “patch”. Listen to the birds; find a growing shoot, and marvel at how the young leaves are unfurling on the stem. Let your garden bless you, and share some of its joy, energy and strength with you.
Then, if you want, plant your new plants. But maybe you need to refill your mug, and refill yourself first....

Looking like a fine bank holiday

 

Decided to take a leaf out of my own book, and “walk the walk”, not just “talk the talk”.
Still not shaken the cold off. The head cold developed into a deep cough. Yesterday it was a struggle to honour my commitment to run the sound desk at church. Managed not to flip a wrong switch during a coughing fit, but my fugged-up brain meant I didn’t test the wireless mics properly, which meant the sound-tech’s “walk of shame”, taking a working wireless mic onto the stage for the speaker.
Anyway, the ongoing cold has meant I haven’t managed to get a second-in-a-week grass cut in. So all the dandelions are seeding merrily....
This morning, I donned my fleece, and took my mug of tea for a wander around my garden. Lots of gardening appreciation done. A few dead leaves removed from the new daffodils, as they start to go over. Taddlingpoles admired. And those dandelions? Well, as all the large plants are announcing themselves with white seed heads, I was able to wander around, grab the plant at soil level, and with a twist, thwart their world domination plans. That’ll larn ‘em!!

 

I hope you are feeling better today Sian and you get rid of this cold asap. That’s what perks me up...trying to remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that bad things will come to an end. Had a morning potter..you are right, its a lovely thing taking in and appreciating the garden. Also love watching the birds...they are taking care of the aphids on a rose bush for me. Feeling much better this morning and hoping it continues to this afternoon...and maybe i’ll get those plants potted up today too.
