She's been around since last year, but now knows me and to be honest I think she is getting a bit too friendly, she follows me around at a safe distance, but I can see her tracking my moves.
This was earlier this morning only a few feet away.

Just after that I saw her with this years cub, (think she only has the one), but didn't have my camera.
A bit later and this one appeared on its own.

          Nice photo.

That's quite a young one. Probably only a year old. They grow very rapidly.
The six that "Fiona" had under our tea-house two years ago in March, grew from this size in April,

          P1000199.JPG

to this size in early June. They'd all left home by the end of July.

          P1000469.JPG

Sometimes Fiona looked very careworn looking after six cubs. But she was a wonderful mother and took them out of the garden, two at a time over three days to start their new lives.

          P1000471.JPG

She came back looking much refreshed in March last year. But we'vve not seen her since.

For any new readers, here's the original thread.

          Meet "Fiona."

I'm assuming the cub in my picture is only three months old maximum, probably born in february.

Great photos pete. Very cute little cub although I'm not sure I would want them in my garden unless they are well behaved.

Could be. Ours were probably borrn later as there were six of them.

                  We had six of them.
I can't say they misbehaved, they just acted like foxes. There was a lot of play fighting, they flattened everything in the bed in front of our back fence next to the tea-house and they dug a few small holes in the lawn. There were muddy footprints on the verandah of our tea-house and progressively higher up on its doors as they grew. They'd practice "pouncing," by jumping off the verandah, a height all of a foot, running round the front, up the two steps to do it again.

You can see the mess on the side of the verandah. Though there was never any fox poo we could see.

                  P1000419.JPG

But I gave them this box, so they used that more.

                  P1000415.JPG

Or the tub of the tree on the small patio next to it.

                  P1000423.JPG

But they always looked quite clean and well cared for.

The garden quickly came back to normal once they left and within a month it was as if they'd never been there.

One night last year after I'd been watering I left the hose pipe out ,(it was a brand new flexi hose) got up the next morning to find it strewn across the garden in 8 pieces,we looked back on the cameras and there they were two fox cubs playing tug of war with it.

Last year she had 3 cubs it wasn't long before I only saw 2, I guess one died early.
Then one day I heard a lot of dogs barking further up the road and it sounded like a fight.
After that she sat on the allotment, making that strange sound they make , kind of calling.
After that I only ever saw the one cub which I assume reached maturity.

Well I didn't see either of them last thursday or most of Friday.
She's back now, seems to be just lying around a lot, and the cub seems to be missing.

Could be wrong, but I'm thinking she has lost it.

Things get stranger, just seen a tiny fox cub wandering around the garden, must be half the size of the other one I took the picture of.
Mums not been evident all day today, often she lays on my compost heap sunning herself, but not today.

Really cant work out what's going on.

I think it's so rewarding when Mrs Foxy brings the childern round to introduce them. I feel that there does exist a relationship between man and beast.

I have overtime written much about foxes. They are sad to say, much persecuted, then possibly much of our wildlife is. Dear old brock, the badger, blamed for bovine TB. Let's be honest. This beautiful place we call home, is big enough for all of us.
