LATEST MOAN FROM YOU AND ME 2019

Apologies in advance - lots of things are getting me down at the moment...

Where to start - I’ll just share a little, I think...
13th March, we had very high winds here, and a strong gust ripped one of our large garden gates off the post: hinges and some wood still attached, gate not! I contacted the insurance company, was told to get quotes, sent them off, and waited, and waited, and are still waiting....

...so, since then, we have not been able to have vehicular access to the house. The gap where the gate was, is fenced, to stop our dog wandering out, and the local dogs (leads are to be worn around the human’s neck apparently, rather than clipped to the dog’s collar) wandering in. Our cars are parked on the street, and shopping is carried through the narrow side gate, and down the long drive to the house. Who needs a gym membership?
15th April, they start digging up the street, to put in mains sewage system, which we have to connect to by law. (Even though we can’t, as we are too far below the street, but that is a different moan...) So, the cars are now in the next street, and it’s a walk from there, up to our street, halfway down to our house, through narrow side gate, and down the drive...

We have to put our rubbish for collection on the street, which is normal. The refuse lorry can’t come along the street, because it’s dug up. So the workmen are supposed to take the bags/sacks/bundles of prunings to the end of the street, for collection. This morning, I looked out, and they’d left the 7 large bundles from yesterday’s efforts outside our gate, when they took everything else. So when I went out with my old dog, I had to gently walk her to the car in the next street, holding her when she stumbled on the uneven surfaces, and lifting her into the boot. Then go back to the house, and carry all of the bundles from our gateway where I’d put them yesterday to the top of the street, so they can be collected.

Coming back to the house later, carrying my shopping, I asked one of the workmen how long the work was going to carry on for ... until October !!!

 

Now,probably asking for too much information, but I’m honestly curious now ... does that mean that people use their less - erm - “accurate” hand, unless hand-choice dictated by religion/culture?

 

I've been watching the news and am mystified as to why there are people in London protesting Trump. Yes, I know he's there but what will this protest accomplish? A few years ago a bunch of Canucks went down to Washington to protest Trump and I have yet to figure out what that was about either. He hadn't even started imposing his protectionist tariffs on us yet!

Where do these people get the time, and money, to attend these protests? I'd like to tap into some of that travel money but sorta play hooky and visit local sights instead of yelling at foreign leaders.

 

I completely agree...IMHO...this is nothing but a 'showing up'..I find all this nonsense rather embarrassing ,I thought the Great British People were made of better stuff than this..

 

They are mostly "professional"protesters that rile up others.
If there is a protest going, they will join in.

Probably on benefits most of them.
The gullible ones that join in are probably on paid sick leave.

 

Unfortunately the country is full of Khans, Corbyns and Lucas types, its a sign of the times.
Have lots of principles.
But I wouldn't trust any of them to run the proverbial pi** up in a brewery.

@Sian in Belgium I agree with @shiney and think it might be a good idea to also add E&OE if you do go to court. that really covers your behind.

 

To be honest, @shiney , I have no idea of our rights here either! We do not have a broker that we went through, so there is no one to turn to advise us. It’s why the whole thing is getting me down. I am so helpless, ignorant, and not knowing where, or to whom, to turn. Really frightening, if I think about it too much.

I don't know about the specifics of Belgian law either, but if it's anything like French law, I'm afraid that applying UK procedures and ideas simply won't work. Until you've experienced continental customer service and justice, you simply don't realise how things are loaded in the consumer's favour in the UK. As for going to court....there is no such thing as a Small Claims Court. Any form of justice-seeking involves lawyers, lots of time and lots of money, with no guarantee that you'll achieve the desired outcome, even if you're in the right.
