RAW vs JPEG

Well it would need to go on a device anyway and therefore come off the camera, for me it is one more click to share a RAW than it is to save the jpeg. I do very little editing at all, if any.

I'm not sure what you mean, grads go on the lens, and you still choose RAW or jpeg, unless your talking about applying grads in post processing, which would go onto either the RAW of jpeg. Please expand.

Could you detail the procedure to email a RAW file straight from camera?

I should add that I have a now aged Konica/Minolta A2 (?) that has a RAW facility. I found the accompanying software very confusing and gave up

I rarely take my Nikon dslr out now unless I want to take something moving fast and generally use my Canon sx60 bridge although there are restrictions on using RAW depending on the programme mode. I can't be bothered to spend hours editing RAW images but I use FastStone free imaging software as it does what I want. I can't get the Canon Digital Pro 4 to work.

 

connect camera to pc,
download photo's
click raw to open (It opens auto in photoshop)
In photoshop raw editing click open image
Click save image.

Send email.

Bonus with Photoshop is its scripting, all of the above can be done automatically, so.

Walk in from photo shoot.
Connect camera
Fire up photoshop script.
Put Kettle on and feet up.

But I don't carry a laptop in my camera bag, just an 8" tablet with wifi camera app + OTG cable, and find Jpegs on seperate card handy for reviewing images on the tablet whilst the 300MB/s UHS-II SDHC cards stay in slot 1.

P.S. Before anybody who uses 'burst' mode for wildlife, sports, etc. uses RAW for the first time, I suggest they check how quickly it will fill their camera's buffer as mine will fill double quick, at full speed first, then half the frames per sec after buffer's full.

 

That would be a perfect scenario to use jpeg for, or raw and jpeg for the best of both worlds, use the jpegs whilst out shooting to email, then once home you could process the much better quality raw files. That is perfect flexibility.

I used to use RAW but got fed up with spending too much time editing.

I made the switch to Fuji x as the SOOC jpegs are wonderful (not 100%) and often use film type bracketing to give me options.

However since discovering Affinity for the iPad Pro I might just revert back to RAW......sometimes. Trying to work out the best DAM as Apple Photos sucks.
