They don't call it global warming anymore, it's called climate change.

            Hi,

Thanks Jenny; I always enjoy a good soaking whilst working outside. :)

We don't have thunder yet Jiffy; Blackie's too busy putting the rain down; I feel sorry for all those who fear rain living in flood risk areas like Hebden Bridge; if the rain is coming down there I bet a lot of worried homeowners will be going to bed tonight?

Typical June in Yorkshire though and typical of the rest of the year unless it's sleeting; snowing or hailing.

Thanks for enlightening me Logan very much appreciated. :loll: Whatever its called it sure hasn't arrived here yet and isn't likely to.

            Kind regards, Colin.

It seems you all have my rain today. A dry day here for the first time in weeks, a mixture of sun and cloud with a light breeze, 18C/64F. At last I've got my front garden strimmed and mowed, a mere four hours work. :phew: The rain is back tomorrow so the back garden will have to wait.

                      Hi,

Many thanks Logan for adding the video explaining climate change. :)

West Yorkshire isn't affected by climate change because it's usually a black wet hole; if we have two consecutive days of sunshine it's panic as water shortage kicks in which is ridiculous given our rainfall.

                      Our patio as normal.

                      Patio_002.JPG

                      Well it almost dried and I was worried we might end up with a water shortage. It can pour with rain for days on end but just a couple of hours without rain and it all rapidly dries out because of our steeply sloping site. During very heavy rain the steps are turned into a cascade as the water charges down the garden heading to the valley bottom. A few years ago I installed flood defences and below is a picture of what is beneath our patio;

                      Flood defences_001. Flood defences (9).JPG

A course of engineering bricks fully bedded in mortar to seal the wall/foundation joint; a channel built with a slope to discharge any water gaining access beneath the patio this now discharges to the side of the bungalow via a 4" dia drain. All this I planned and installed myself; it's been worth the time and effort. New pipework and even the white pipe outlets sealed; the 4" dia pipes have an automatic air vent. I can moan with the best of them but at least I do something about problems.

As a child just about every home had a coal fire; industry too used vast amounts of coal; fog and smog were common and obviously no one wishes to return to such days but strangely we had short severe winters and glorious long summers?

                      Home

I wonder if the above company can supply a deep sea divers suit then I could garden the year round protected against rain from Blackie and his sister Gale would hve trouble blowing me over due to weighted boots; I love Yorkshire but I detest this wet climate.

Well, after two nights of thunderstorms with the works; thunder, lightning, hailstones, torrential rain, and high winds, then an evening of heavy rain and high winds, last night and this morning we have just had very high winds....

                      821A8B10-CD45-43C0-9719-FE7B10AD154C.jpeg
You can never photograph the effect of high winds on trees, unless they are actually down, can you? But in the island bed (pale pink geraniums at the base of the trees) the left-hand medlar should not be at 30 degrees! I guess this is why all our trees “face” uphill!

About an inch of rain yesterday, so water butts full and no outside watering for a day or two. At the moment bright, blustery and cool 14.4°C.

Torrential rain here, just watching a sodden young wood pigeon feeling really sorry for it, only plus with the weather is I can't cut my hedge, been told I cut a lovely hedge but one of the jobs I hate.

Just had a discustantly heavy shower.
Sun out now but windy and pretty awful really for the time of year.
