The variety shown is Grosso but Hidcote and Munstead Dwarf are both equally as good and possibly slightly hardier.
The essential requirements are good sharp drainage and full sun. So yes add plenty of grit to your clay soil... be generous with it. I would also add grit to the bottom of the planting hole. Third thing is not to water lavendar ...in pots maybe some watering but in the ground none at all. Maybe planting on a slight ridge Sienna will help too

“Talk you through it” Upsy! Well in addition to the above.....my lavendar hedges grow in a good sandy loam incidentally.....after flowering they are cut back hard to make for a neat grey green edging for the rest of the year.
I never feed lavender ...simply let it grow hard

 

@shiney what sort of conditions are your bee orchids growing in please? Sandy? Clay? And does it stay quite damp? The surrounding luxuriant growth suggests it is.

 

Thanks @Verdun . I think my problem is not cutting them back enough then. Also with mine the actual flower stems grow so tall and a puff of wind seems to flatten them or just plainly destroys their shape for the rest of the summer. They truly become a mess, but thankfully the bees still love them!
When do you cut back, I tend to do it in the Autumn...is that too late?

 

Yes, too late Upsy. By cutting back immediately after flowering ...mid summer or so....new growth is quick and hardens off well for the winter

Clary sage and calendula (indian prince?) the wind had flattened the calendula and they were wilting so I’ve brought them in as cut flowers and now theyre perking up

 

Lots of flowers ready to burst open in the front garden...the “hot colours” are in the front garden and “cool colours” are in the back garden. Also trimmed back a rose “celebration?” Into the shape of a heart a few months ago...it was starting to look that shape so I helped it along. Its started to bloom in pinky/red flowers...can’t wait to see it when it’s in full bloom.

 

Very helpful @Verdun , I think we will give it a go, I love the scent of lavender. Will add it to the future projects list

 

I krdered these seeds because they promosed red with white blooms. And these begonias are true to thei description

 

Grapes , bought a good grafted plant and now in its 3rd year has produced the start of bunches of grapes ... well pleased ...
