Tried to convince The Teenager that raking the lawn is FUN! Excellent workout! Great for feeling in touch with the nature! :yay:

Raked the lawn- what backbreaking, boring job that is, but it had to be done. :phew: Filled the bird feeder, I try not to feed too much over the summer but just enough to remind them that this is a garden worth visiting. Scattered some grass seed-compost mix on the poorly parts of the newly raked grass and was awarded with extremely delighted swarms of sparrows who think I'm awfully nice. Clearly I didn't think this through very well

Trimmed back the Ivy. Honestly, this is the "after" picture
    ivycornerjune19.JPG

Was left with bucketfuls of Ivy cuttings. Have-cuttings-must-propagate... so now I have a large container of Ivy against a shady wall and some indoors to hopefully enhance the nowadays deciduous avocado tree. The ducks look happy

Started training my standard blackcurrant tree. I bought the mother plant from Poundland some years ago, it's very unruly and the fruit taste rubbish. So I tried to get rid of it in early spring but couldn't resist taking just a teeniest bit of a cutting...

It might take a year or two to become a lush standard centerpiece:

A few plants planted for a local customer and I’m back home watching my silly neighbours trying to cut a patch of grass with a mower that is no more than 20 foot long by 4 foot wide which so far has taken them 20 minutes and they’ve only managed half . This chap has his young son who is about four years of age stood right by him while they mess around with the blades together with the machine plugged in, truly unbelievable and I’m waiting for it to start up and a few limbs to fly off.
The other year I watched him trimming a bush with a hedge cutter while he had their other baby in one of those slings held on his chest, I truly believe some people should not go anywhere near Power Tools.

        Hi,

Well said Liz the pot. :) It's amazing how many people should be watered rather than fed. When we moved here many years ago one of our neighbours was driving along the street with a four year old child on the bonnet of his Land Rover. The kid is now grown up (?) with two daughters of his own and a couple of years ago the police did a drugs bust at his address; understandably really given his role models.

        Kind regards, Colin.

Seen plenty of that stupidity too liz the pot. Once took a woman to task for leaving very young children in her car whilst she went into a store, keys in the ignition and engine running. One child was turning the steering wheel!!!!:noidea: Mind boggling:sad::sad::sad::sad:

Lawns mown and a few containers top dressed with gravel :)

Went to food festival....glorious weather. Of course I had to try the exclusive lagers, gins and vodkas :):):)

Reminds me of one of the stores I managed, a woman arrived at the car park barrier and tried to reach the machine to put in a coin (you got your money back when you bought stuff, parking was at a premium in this city) She couldn't reach, so she got out to put the money in but closed the door with the keys in the ignition with the engine running. In the meantime the car had decided to lock all the doors. She ran into the store, I just happened to be near the checkouts and she explained the problem, she was in bit of a panic. So I and a "trolley boy" went out to see the car. She'd applied the hand brake so we couldn't shift it. Cars were backed up down the street waiting to get in.

So I said to her. "Pick a window."

            She said "Why?"

I said, "That's the one I'm gonna break so I can get in to shift your car."
She looked shocked, but meekly said,

            "This little one."

I smiled and produced the bit of wire coat hanger we kept at reception for similar situations that I'd brought out with me and opened the door with it. She was in tears, but had a big smile on her face.

Glorious day in the garden today.:firesun:
Hubs mowed the lawns, I dead headed and watered the pots. Picked some more strawberries.
Had lunch and dinner outside. :BBQ:

Took various cuttings and sowed some more seeds.:hapflowers2:

              Perfectly blissful.:spinning:

Not done anything today in the garden but for watering some plant in the GH, after finishing work this dinner time I've had a fat lazy day on the couch watching tv. Seen quite a lot of jobs to do tomorrow after visiting hopefully multiple GC, I've already fuelled the bike up ready to go .

                      Sunny at the moment.
The only thing on the agenda was a bit of "touching up" of small areas of the patio with the "Wet and Forget" but it's going to rain later, so I'll leave it until Wednesday. Lots of tennis on TV today.

Added the power to the greenhouse sockets while we have some dry weather and decided to clean the greenhouse while I was in there, potted on my begonias and put them outside with the rest of this year's plants.

Yesterday was a good day in the garden....!
I’d been away for a week, looking after Mum for her second cataract operation. So I came back to a garden that looked like it had been neglected for weeks.

Because of the heat, I got up early before it got too warm, and started.
                            - topped up the water level in the pond (despite all the thunderstorms, it was running a little low)
                            - weeded all three raised veg beds
                            - wound in the runner beans, and the mangetout peas
                            - removed some of the blanketweed from the pond (didn’t have any last year, but it’s a bit pea-soupy this year)
                            - planted out the “interesting” weeds from the veg bed; lemon balm plants near the doorways, snapdragons in the flower beds
                            - hubby very kindly offered to do the bulk of the mowing, so I just did the fine path-cutting. A wonderful bonus
                            - did the “walk of death” along the down-side of the extended patio bed. Turfs creating a wall to hold up a level flower bed on one side, on-in-three steep bank to walk along on the other side. The turfs haven’t bonded enough to walk the levelled area, so I have to walk below the turf retaining wall to deadhead the roses and lupins...

Today was church in the morning, and planing to relax and enjoy the garden this afternoon!
