I am not convinced one way or the other... We have several around the village and closer to one in particular I have defo noticed a difference in wildlife...

I have just been reading this and wondered if anyone here had a thoughts or experiences about them......

We have one not far away and went to see it close up, the only noise we could hear was the whoosh of the blades, touched the mast and no vibations at all, {I'm tone deaf and can hear different noises that oh can't hear and I didn't hear any other noises, the wind turbine is on big footings in clay soil may be different soil different noises may be:dunno: while we were there the birds were flying through the blades as they were turning it looked like they were having fun because they done it a lot of times while we were there, no dead birds or any other animals at the bottom of windy
I did put up pic's of bird flying through the blades somewhere on GC

Got to admit I didn't read all that.
I just dont like the bloody things full stop, they look awful and make the countryside a mess, the ones out a sea arn't much better, but I suppose we are stuck with them.
I really cant work out where we are going to get our energy on calm nights.
If we get a prolonged foggy spell one winter and we are relying on windmill and solar farms what is going to happen?:yikes:

They are very ugly things I agree Pete and now they are saying detrimental becauseof the noise they don’t make.. We now have 4 in close proximity to us and they have transformed what was a very beautiful piece of “english” countryside here to a nothing view and the other side of the nearest town there are fields of solar panels.!! I have no idea how we are going to get our future energy either, but not keen so far..

Personally I'd like to see more effort put into using tidal energy, its more reliable, at least you know when you are going to get high tides etc.
Seems much more sensible than relying on the weather in a country like ours.

Yes Totally agree with that Pete, being an island it would make more sense to me as that is a huge amount of energy going to waste..

Well, I agree with everyone about the nuisance of the monster mills. I really think if we all could afford solar panels on our roofs to run all low watt household items such as lighting, radios, etc, then the monsters would not be needed. A quiet nuclear plant would clear farmer's fields of these commercially driven wastes of good land.

All of my lighting, fans, etc in the greenhouses are run entirely on solar and I would love to expand that to power my house but alas, PV power generation is still expensive.

@Jiffy our birds must be less intelligent because legions of them are killed by the windmills. And their noise is a lower audible range than humans can detect other than feeling "something not right".

Although I don't like seeing the wind turbines, are they any more a blot on the landscape than electricity pylons? They create vibration too and more often than not buzzing can be heard around them.

Scotland has and still is developing 'green' energy. We have some wind turbines here but most electricity is produced by hydro turbines. Sea turbines have also been developed in the last few years and current trialling has been successful. My gripe is that all electricity produced here is sent south to the main grid and then sold back to Scotland, with householders here paying the highest rates in Britain.

Loads of wind farms around here can't get out of the valley without passing or seeing one. The hill in front of me you may of seen it on a few pictures before just covers once the largest wind farm in england i think its second now but planning permission were recently rejected to make it the largest wind farm in England again.

They never really bothered me view wise I am probably got used to seeing them all the time now.

I often wonder, how or why this country ever became known as 'Great Britain'

As Marley says. We are an island. This fact is so beneficial to us, as prove just these past couple of days. Such high temperatures on the near continent but we Brits are saved somewhat by us being an island.

We so often hear about water running out. So might this mean the seas and oceans suddenly drying up? Course not, just the opposite as the polar ice caps are melting. As an island and having all that water surrounding us, we are blessed with an eternal power source. Harness the power of the sea, develop turbine generators, desalination plants.

Too costly say the politicians. Of couse it is, if plans, designes etc are continually shelved, yet billions are spent on space research etc. Dreams of one day living on Mars. C'mon, be honest. We can't live in peace down here, what chance of that kind of future.

Steward. A wee drop more water in my Scotch please!

Good analogy, Sheal. I can't stand the pylons ... and they can make as much of a hum as turbines, which are at least graceful.

In the 1970s there was a children’s drama series based on electric pylons. Some people were affected by them, to the point that they went mad and “turned” on the rest of society, causing a sort of civil war. I remember being very disturbed by the series, but then my disquiet (I am one of those who can hear the hum of pylons) was overshadowed by the “protect and survive” leaflet dropping on the doormat...

                            Yu know what?
I reckon some of our electricity is sent North, as you say, its known as the National Grid.
We even buy the stuff from Europe, there is a cable down Folkestone, probably others, that allows us to share energy with Europe.
God knows what is going to happen when Brexit comes along and that electricity has to go through customs.:lunapic 130165696578242 5:
