Hi @Verdun, yeah been a pretty eventful off-season in quite a lot of ways excluding the garden. but I'm frantically trying to whip it back into shape, I fear I may have left it a little late but I'll try to do something with it...If I can get the grass back to some kind of normality I'll be content. Seeking advice on tidying up straggly Lavendars and which Hardy Geraniums should I be looking out for.

Many thanks luciusmaximus; I'm amazed by how well the meadow flowers have taken putting on such a glorious display; rape seed and corn flower first; now huge poppies; I wonder what will show next; I usually don't do well with seed not even grass seed but these have made up for all my previous failures.

We had our prolonged summer yesterday at 29C; it's now down to 20C which is still excellent for us; the ground is still wet just beneath the surface so no need to water; I'm just enjoying a mug of tea with clean hands before heading back into the workshop. Whoopee.

Cleared and dug over broad bean area. Stirred up compost heap a bit. Puloled up spent annual poppies.
Next sweep up pine needles from decking and path, then planting/repotting. Need to net carrots to keep squirrels out. Finish off with picking fruit and peas and then watering.

With the lavender you can cut it back but not into old wood.

 

Thanks @Logan, the things are all bent over and not as spritely as when I bought the plants a few years back, anything else that can be done to make them stand more proud (feeding or otherwise)

 

Also keeping my eye out for one of these little ladies, either for topiary or a Petunia/Surfina/Calibrachoa tower for next season

 

I wouldn't feed them, the only thing is to trim them after flowers have finished.

Cut 2 lawns, dead headed tithonias, dahlias, cosmos and others. Removed lowest leaves on tomatoes to help with air circulation and expose ripening tomatoes, picked strawberries and salad stuff and watered quite a bit. Pruned Philadelphia belle etoille and deutzia Mont Blanc....both have flowered abundantly again
Deliberating whether to dig up and divide a yellow lupin. Still looking ok but it took a beating a few days ago from those winds. Shame cos it was huge with masses of flowers

Oops! Have I had too much sun? Just congratulating myself on seeing 2 ladybirds until I realised they were lily beetles! Wot am I like??? Duly squashed

 

@Retired my wild flowers are not as vivid or pretty as yours and the colour combinations are a bit odd . I did originally set out with specific colours in mind but nature had decided to take over the creative process for me. I have tried to take a few pics but my kindle is not very good. Things tend to look better in reality instead of the other way around . Here's a couple of pics.

 

This morning I looked through the glass doors going into the conservatory from the computer room to see Mrs Gull looking right back at me . I had opened one of the conservatory doors to the garden as it was heating up in there. I guess she wanted something to eat .

Just a bit of weeding, some dead heading and cutting back today. This is one area I worked on, cutting back a hardy geranium and two aqualegias. I want to plant something wildlife friendly for rest of summer/autumn. Or even something that will give me green leaves now and flower in winter might be good. The willow will be bare then but the area is in full shade most of the year, only gets partial sun for 4 months. I'm open to suggestions

 

Covered most of the blueberry plants with the fruit ripening with fleece so the black birds don't eat them. That took a lot of time.

 

They look beautiful ... isn't nature amazing?

 

Well today I've been very productive in the garden , visited the GC this morning and got some begonia embers glow and fucshia G Bonstedt for the canna pots.

Back home and got stuck into planting up the supposed to be hot border. Removed some plants and helenium sahin early's they struggles with continuous slug attacks, so my bright idea was to replace them with dahlia .

Doesn't look like much at the moment but hopefully I am going to have a red hot summer border I'll report back when it gets going, I've added 3 dahlia Bishop of Llandaff - 1 dahlia sylvia - 1 salvia amistad - 5 tithonia - another lobelia tannia and a few annual rudbeckia indian summer which have huge golden flowers. I can't believe I didn't cut down the dead fritillaria stem I've only just noticed

Tidy up other areas of the garden , planting out ammi vasnaga - cleome - salvia phyllis fancy - bedding annuals - lilys - dahlia fascination. potted up foxgloves which I think will do another year and potted on rudbeckia's and others.

And I did some strawberry picking nice big tub just for me .
