Looking good @freddie, As we were away for thew whole of May I had to wait until we came back to buy my tomato plants (normally grown from seed). One was Black Opal, has anyone grown this variety, is it much different to Black Cherry?

 

I had been growing a tomato plant for my brother on my windowsill (unsure what type) when it had outgrown the sill he came round to pick it up but dropped it an broke the bottom of the stem.

I decided to try and save it by potting up again and burying the stem as far as I could, any time I have taken it out of the garage it immediately wilts and seems unhappy so I have just left it in there and mist sprayed with water now and again.

Delighted to find a tomato growing on it this morning!!

‘Tumbling Bella’ Jenny. First time I’ve tried them, so can’t vouch for them.

 

Yes, the stem was broken about 1 inch above the soil level in the previous pot. I wasn’t holding out too much hope for it but it seems to be hanging on with some care and no stress from wind or sunshine.

 

Morrisons Moneymaker-type tomato (aka the cheapest own brand tomato).

 

Hi. I was given a mini greenhouse earlier in the year. Whitefly killed off all the chilli plants I started, so just to have something in there, I bought 3 tomato plants.

I've grown several varieties of tom outside before, but have always been disappointed by the flavour, which I thought might have been down to our less than tropical summers.

One of the tomato plants has gone bananas and reached the top of the greenhouse already. I don't really want to take it out or take the top panels off, as it kinda defeats the object of having the greenhouse, and I don't want to top it off while it's still in it's main growth phase

Can I try to train the top of the plant horizontally? Maybe with garden twine stapled to the wooden batons of the greenhouse? Can an upright plant be manipulated like that?

 

Yes, no problem. That's what I do, although they do insist on growing upwards if not tied down!

Mine are plodding on,harvested a few outdoor girl this week which have tasted ok but not sweet enough for my liking....

Gigantomo has flowered but no toms yet and my Red Robin & Red Cherry ones are outside with no fruits formed yet

June was wet and overcast mostly here so wasnt expecting flowers just blight

 

I have used black treacle (molasses) for years long before James Wong was on the scene, Taught to me by my grandfather over sixty years ago, I believe it feeds the micro herd. Sorry for the late reply been away on holiday

 

Mine are growing nicely but I am still far away from ripe for picking time!
