Just finished pulling the shade cloth from the greenhouses as the guessers have promised to put a halt to tne heatwave.

    Deadheaded some potted flowers.

And trying to figure out what time zone my 4 O'clock seeds came from. They seem to open when they darned well feel like doing so. Never at 4. Maybe 7 maybe 9....

I'm hoping it cools down tonight and stops tne intermittent thunderstorms so I can go to bed with the windows ooen and not worry... hmmm. Mhabe I should just be grateful for all the free water we had throughout the heatwave :)

And we've had heatwaves since I can remember and I am NOT telling you how old I am!

Yesterday I finished off my Sempervivum Stand made from Pallet-wood. It measures roughly 1100mm x 600mm x 500mm with 4 plinth sections for the plants. I then painted it with Cuprinol Garden Shades "Old English Green" After rounding up lots of pots that seem to multiply behind the scenes I proceeded to make up a potting mix which consisted each time of 2 parts compost with John Innes added, 4 parts Sharp Sand, 2 parts rough gravel (10mm). After mixing I filled all the pots and topped with Horticultural Grit in readiness for the first inhabitants. The stand will get at least 6hrs of sunshine a day (rain clouds permitting lol) and the rest in semi-shade. This could be the start of an addiction as I roll into Wales/England at the end of the week. I may place a rack on the wall or screw another box section to the top of the stand as the collection grows.

            Semp1.jpg

The beauty of Semperviviums for me is the diversity of cultivars available and the ease of division. I bought that one in the pic for £6 at the local commercial chain garden centre. (less 20% discount). I got six plantlets from the mother. So I ended up paying way less than £1 per plant (for a named variety). What's not to like...
We all like collecting things so why not a few of these relatively maintenance free plants.
Hopefully, some of us members can start up a little club via this forum and share our wares (not sell but share) post our lists each season and grow our collections whether it be casual or serious 1 plant or thousands. Just a thought
            I bid you Good Morning....
            Regards
            C

Started off by shovelling mud that accumulates in a dip in the pavement just outside the house and around a lamp post just up from the driveway. Two barrows full of muck. Annoying that the council aren't as active with the street cleaners and I'm doing their job..... I'll not get too bitter
Google maps shows that it gathers muck all of the time

                    muck.JPG

Then dug up a load of chippings that meet the drive at a low point. Theres a drain there but the chippings still get chocked with mud. Rinsed these in the riddle and got a couple of buckets of sludge out of the chippings.

Cut the shed up and filled the skip - made 'greedy boards' for the sides of the skip.

Swept the patios and part of the drive. Its almost looking like a garden again.

Then to the tunnel - cut off the lower leaves on the tomatoes and discovered that the gardeners delight sent as a freebie with the tunnel are really a yellow plum tomato. Lovely and sweet - whatever they are !

Today my 2 helpers and I potted up the Kordana Roses I bought from Lidl yesterday. I have wanted to involve the children for a long time but somehow it has never quite worked out. Today the twins kindly informed me that they do gardening at school. :gaah: There are so many things they could have helped me with. It's a bit late to start anything new now but in the Autumn we can start again. It's a comfort to know that help IS at hand if I need it.

For now I will be using the potted roses to hide this ugly drain cover.

Brilliant Gary, the girls will be so proud of their roses. You are giving them lasting memories, all kids need to feel they are actually needed and not just pets to be given treats to.

My grandparents allowed us kids a row in the veg patch to grow whatever we wanted (kindly guiding us towards the easy stuff, such as Marigolds) and boy were we proud to water our own rows and picking the flowers to take back home to be displayed in vases. :) Graduating from Calendulas to radishes and dill was a big step, I remember Grandad talking with me about my row like I was a grown up person. :)

                          I'm getting all sentimental now...

Today's gardening activity was limited to planting the small Jasmine in the hole I dug yesterday. One of the gift shops I've recently put stuff into messaged me earlier to say they have sold half my stock this weekend :hate-shocked:. Another shop also text to say they have sold coasters and a canvas. More stock needed they said. And I have to take samples to another gift shop next week. Guess I won't be doing much gardening for awhile :dunno: . Would like to get my compost bin set up tomorrow but will depend on how much Fat Rabbit stuff I can get done.

I saw the baby bunny again this afternoon. I was sat on patio having a painting break and he hopped past, had a look into one of the runs to see if any buns around ( they were asleep in the tent ) and hopped off. He didn't look very happy and his coat was dull . No sign of his siblings .
