When I moved into this house nigh on 30 years ago, we inherited a bed of strawberries that were identified as an older kind (from 1956?) called Senga Sengana. They taste as strawberries should. The advice we got from a pro grower here was....just water them. No mulch, feed, anything else, only water in the evenings if needed. During the Spring that follows the third crop, new plants are taken from the runners, and the old taken to the tip.

Despite the fact that "experts" (I use the term loosely) keep telling me that they will become diseased if left in the same place for more than 10 years, they've always been fine. The only difference noted is that nowadays, they ripen about 2 to 4 weeks earlier than they used to do.

Not sure that this variety is available any more though.
