Got lots done yesterday evening until it went dark . Canna arrived as well so potted them up - mowed the lawn - bit of deadheading - grapevine trim - sowed some seeds and collected foxglove seeds - took some cutting but most of all tidy up the greenhouse , they still empty pots everywhere but the plants which are in there look like they are on display now and not just hemmed in, planted out any plants which need planting out as well :)

Ducking in and out today between rain showers and other non-gardening-related odd jobs. Lots of dead heading, and cut jugfuls of sweetpeas; ours have been particularly rampent flowerers this year, not sure if everyone else is seeing the same or if I've cracked the unknown secret formula?! :rolleyespink: I've kept some for inside the flat and given the rest to our upstairs neighbours as thanks for feeding the cats and hens for us for a couple of weekends while we were at various weddings this summer. Verbal thanks don't really work as they just insist it's us doing them the favour, as their 2.5 year old loves visiting our animals, so garden produce it is!

Thanks for all the advice re cuttings a few pages back - after a productive afternoon late last week the propagator looks like this:

So fingers crossed :fingers crossed::fingers crossed::fingers crossed:

Perhaps you should take it back and ask for another one.

A few of us went down hoping to see the Hump Back whale in the bay today....alas, no luck  a couple of overweight surfers don’t count, do they?:)

Finally sorted out the formalities for my brother and his care....being an alcoholic for so long has had quite an affect

Picking produce and watering the ....too many...containers :) Definitely going to cut back on them next year

I managed to get the front lawns mowed and the house windows cleaned - on the outside - just before a heavy shower of rain this afternoon.

We've been too busy with other things to get a lot done in the last few days (big family get together here at the weekend) but in the last week we have been cutting back lots of plants that have finished flowering (filled four wheelie bins), cut 100ft of laurel and 200ft of privet, cleared loads of debris from the lawns and beds (filled two ton bags that are now waiting to be emptied into wheelie bins when bin men have collected today), have two 8ft high bonfire heaps waiting for burning (it has been so dry round here that we can't do it until we have some fairly good rain although the farmer has just harvested the field and we're waiting for him to bale the straw).

I was out there at 5 a.m. this morning and have filled up the bird feeders, picked beans, courgettes, plums and blackberries (plums are exceptionally sweet this year :dbgrtmb:), moved the sprinkler to another part of the veg garden and trimmed the main lawn. After I've finished breakfast I'll trim a couple of more lawns and then take things easy.

@Logan I always do but it's difficult. I first walk round it bashing the outsides with the garden fork and then I spend some time shoving an 8ft cane through it in all directions. I usually have a bonfire every month so it gets disturbed regularly but it has been two months because of the drought here.

Well, yesterday I finished taking the spent flower stems off the lychnis around the garden, and the few aquilegia that I’d missed, as well as dead-heading the patio roses in the angle bed. I spent an hour or so digging through the hardcore at the bottom of the drive, getting as much wash-soil out, as well as the weeds.
Then I cut up the lychnis flower stems, and added them to the compost bay, before cutting the grass.

Today I’ve taken the two trugs of soil and weeds from the drive work yesterday. I’m going to have a cuppa before doing the next section of drive clearing. I also hope to cut the one little patch of grass I should have done yesterday.
