No gardening as such today, except watering. I decided to have a go at using Oasis for flower arranging. All the flowers are cut from my own garden. Not idea whether it’ll all be dead tomorrow or not :rolleyespink:

With wet and windy weather forecast for late tonight and the weekend I decided to get the Secateurs, scissors, string and some canes out and have a long, slow session of checking the pots and the borders. There was a lot of the inevitable dead heading to do with the roses, Monarda, Echinacea, and other hardy perennials in the borders, while also filling the large sack with the detris, plants that had self seeded, grass etc. Also I found some Hollyhocks and Mallows that needed restaking and support because of their height and weight which hopefully will get them through the oncoming bad weather and winds.
The Bird Baths needed cleaning and fresh water poured in them. while I attached the permanently placed, at the back of the West Border, hose to the outdoor tap and put a timer on to top up the Wlid Life pond water level.
Then, concentrating on the numerous pots, I took out all the leaves of the Bearded Iris that were started to brown and looking tattered, all of which ended up in the sack. The Monarda and Echinacea in the large pots on the Patio needed dead heading, and then I checked the Lupins, Eryngium, Agapanthus, Dierama, Amaryllus, and other pots in front of the wooden tiered bench taking out the weeds that had managed to seed themselves in them.
After that I used two watering cans to feed the Shrub roses, climbing roses on the Arbour, and those in the large wooden barrels on the patio and R. Masquerade which has been in it's own site by the Garage, with a liquid feed mixture of Miracle Gro and liquid Seaweed. Then using the same mixture I fed the large pots of Hardy Perennials on the Patio, and then the Tree Fern and Acacia in their large containers.
You must know what I did next:dunno:............made a Mug of Tea and sat contemplating the Garden, while Jenny the Cat snoozed her way through the whole thing:cat-kittyandsmiley::snooze::heehee:

You must be shattered @ARMANDII Well deserved cup of tea...now get your feet up! Youve just reminded me to move a few bits into the greenhouse so the pots don't drown.

            ....probably!
In case you were wondering, I’ll be using existing plants, seedlings that have popped up, to dot into the “stream” gravel, so there will be no big expense, and hopefully the plants will have already adapted to the location, so will take quickly....

Mrs Shiney, and her flower arranging clubs, have decided to no longer use oasis if at all possible because it has to go to landfill. So, for vases etc. she is using scrunched up chicken wire. She still uses oasis if there's no water receptacle. :blue thumb:

I cut the main lawn yesterday and potted up a load of fuchsias and geraniums that someone had dropped into us. Picked a load more plums - they're so sweet that I can't stop eating them. :)

Sorted out a lot of plants in pots to give away yesterday......will continue to do this over the weekend. Too many containers (how did I accumulate so many?:noidea:). I will still have plenty of potted plants left though :)
Hmmmm! Another plant order coming soon....will be potting them up too, for time being anyway :noidea:

Good test for the garden over the next 24 hours or so.....lots of tall big plants so hoping they will cope with the storm; expect they will fine though :noidea:

Got the lawn cut yesterday and tied in next door rambling rose to the fence and my malvin hills rose to my other fence. Finally packed away the bulbs I've been drying in the GH and cold frames it were a job I need to do for ages but couldn't be bothered .

Its rained some last night again , I am going to have to get more plant supports everything just falling over with the weight of the rain, dunno how they do tomorrow / later with the wind as well.

I get my coat on and try and tie some plants up the best I can.

Gosh, never even thought of that @shiney ! Well first and last time of buying oasis for me then! This is for a few roses I’m putting on my gt uncles grave so the oasis is needed on this occasion.

Just been out in the garden digging up plants where they have multiplied incase we move house anytime soon (wishful thinking). Also took a few lavender cuttings. Never done these before...does it look ok? How should i keep these cuttings-inside and covered with a plastic bag?

Here’s how it looks after a little rain has settled it in (yes, it passed the first storm-rain test!)

First thing I did when I got back was to check supports and ties on plants. The afternoon was pleasant enough....mainly bright but breezy.....but the forecast wind for later is something to prepare for. 60mph possible and everything in full leaf and flower.

It’s a walled garden so reasonably sheltered but......cannas 7’ plus, tall dahlias, heleniums, grasses, etc could take a battering. :noidea: The weather right now is deceptive ...even the sun is emerging but I’m not fooled

Bought the biggest box of chocs today for the nurses looking after my brother ...he’s leaving hospital in a couple of days. Well, have you seen the nurses there :) Besides they work bloomin’ hard and deserve our thanks in some way:)
