    Hello folks,

I had a stump recently removed (awesome) which has now left a nice dirt patch on my lawn.

I want to plant the patch with grass and repair the lawn.

Could someone outline some simple steps? I understand there is a range of different grass seeds out there for instance, how do I know which to use?

Talk me through what you would do.

    Thanks!

    Morning Temmy:)
I wouldn’t overthink this at all.
I would rake it and surrounding area and overseed. scatter the seed into the grass area too. I would use any general purpose seed and cover with soil and water. Keep it moist for a few weeks.

It looks like a relatively open sunny area so special seed is probably unnecessary. :)

      Hello!

I went ahead and used some Miracle-Gro Patch Magic along with some new topsoil abut 5 days ago. I'm already starting to see growth, but, I think I can already tell that I didn't put enough seed down to cover the patches.

Is it ok to add more seed to a patch where growth is already happening, or best to wait till it's better established and then add more?

      Thank you.

I would be patient Temmy....the seed will prob germinate and grow enough for you not to overseed so soon. Not good to sow too thickly anyway. With mowing the grass will soon thicken and spread :)

How long should you wait before mowing new grass?

Raise the mower height, wait until the grass is growing well and prob around 2”. Mow, obviously, when grass is dry :)

Be careful that you don't cut it too soon like a friend of mine as the cutting action can actually rip the new grass out because of the shallow root system. So let it grow taller than normal and then cut it.:coffee::)

                Hey folks,

It's been a month since I seeded these patches. I think it's pretty clear that some parts of them haven't been fixed!

What's my best move here? Put some more top-soil down and cover the area with new seed?

I haven't mowed the new grass at all and its about 3+ inches high atm.

(Also, yes, I'm only now starting to understand how many weeds my lawn has :P )
