          @Jenny namaste
          Sorry, wrong conversion I used millimeters instead of millibars........:wallbanging::wallbanging::wallbanging::gaah:

          76.5 cm equals 1019 millibars

          Whille 1012 millilbars equals 75.9 cm

          Talk about exercising the mind:heehee::heehee:

            Not confusing the issue, pete, as there seems to be a lot of change within Europe at the time and a lot of Barometer, made in the different European countries, gave a variety of measuring scales according to the fashion of the times:scratch::hate-shocked::coffee::)

                  No they didn't, as far as I know, until the french decided that that bloke Pascal should get all the credit and changed a perfectly acceptable mb in a hps , as the French often seem to do.
                  A bit like GMT and UTC , they dont like anything anyone else has come up with so change it in the metric system, but by name only.;)

                  Original English was inches of mercury.
                  Continentals used mostly centimeters of mercury
                  And at one time they both used mbs, now the EU ruling is hps?

                      hPa came into EU standards in 1992.

                      Have a visit to the National Museum, as when I visited there they had the best display I have ever seen starting from the 17th century to the present time. There were all sorts of shapes, sizes, and designs. Those offered to the rich and weathy of Europe had different scales of measurements and made according to the fashions at play at bit like some of the watches today.........I doubt that they even read them but were just "must have" items of the times:)

                        I don't blame you, Jenny, as there seems to be a lot of converting to do to get to where you get a reading in the measurement you want.:wallbanging:

                              No winds but we had ten minutes of heavy rain, preceded and followed by bright sunshine. Then a rainbow.

                                Thank you @pete. I'm happy with a variance of .2cm. I still love the little barometer. Hand painted on kid hide,
