Naaah, the EU blinkered and bloody minded???:doh: But we're being told by the Remainers that the EU is giving the UK a fair deal, recognising that only a ratified deal is acceptable to both sides, that a Back Stop would bind the UK to the EU for unknown years to come which would be unacceptable, that it's not using hard nosed methods in negotiating just to show other members what will happen them should they think of leaving........Naaaah, I can't believe that.

        From the BBC legal correspondent:

Wow! This is legal, constitutional and political dynamite.

It is worth just taking a breath and considering that a prime minister of the United Kingdom has been found by the highest court in the land to have acted unlawfully in shutting down the sovereign body in our constitution, Parliament, at a time of national crisis.

The court may have fallen short of saying Boris Johnson had an improper motive of stymieing or frustrating parliamentary scrutiny, but the damage is done, he has been found to have acted unlawfully and stopped Parliament from doing its job without any legal justification.

And the court has quashed both his advice to the Queen and the Order in Council which officially suspended parliament.

That means Parliament was never prorogued and so we assume that MPs are free to re-enter the Commons.

This is the most dramatic example yet of independent judges through the mechanism of judicial review stopping the government in its tracks because what it has done, is unlawful.

Be you ever so mighty, the law is above you - even if you are the prime minister.

Unprecedented, extraordinary, ground breaking - it is difficult to overestimate the constitutional and political significance or today's ruling.

Yes, they've just allowed the courts to decide all political decisions. Because the process wasn't long winded or anything already was it...

          What a mess.

I just wondering how much "work " the MP'S would have actually done by now? Had parliament not been suspended.
They have have been waffling on for pretty much 3yrs,and up to date not agreed on any thing.

They'd have been passing all sorts of vexatious bills to frustrate brexit and not a single one of them has a better plan than to extend and extend and extend....

The BBC, totally unbiased as we all know.:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

But seriously, are we then to expect the first lot of English judges to get the sack? I mean they have been found to be totally wrong, bearing in mind what has happened today and a few weeks ago in Scotland.

I've always said I'm not a fan of Boris, but the whole process is going nowhere and something needs to be done to stop the jam, at some point the MPs have got to come clean and state they want to overturn the result of the referendum, full stop.

But they wont do that, as it will alienate them from a large section of the electorate, so it will go on and on and on...............

She's probably waiting for the squad car to arrive and take her off to the Tower.

She might get lucky and just get hanged rather than hung drawn and quartered.

On a more serious note, I wonder if this will be a catalyst for her to retire, abdicate, whatever?

I think it kind of points out how decrepit and out of date all our political goings on are.

The whole thing needs to be reformed, they are trying to run a country in the 21st century but using ways that go back to the year dot.
                        It's madness.

Tradition is fine, and we need to keep it, but when it comes to running a country it should have no bearing in that.

Lots of predictable calls for Boris to resign but what would be the point? Next PM would run into parliament again and what would change? Nothing! I'm flabbergasted that the government can't just call the election everyone wants

Hi @pete , they wouldn't have done much in Parliament because as has been said before they wouldn't have been there anyway. Last week was a week off for the Liberal Democrats Conference, this week is a week off for the Labour and next week the Conservative Party Conference,
All this fuss over 5 days off from Parliament. It's gonna be really interesting to see how many go to Parliament next week instead of going to the Con. Conference.

I think we are seeing Parliament for what it really is, and has been for years.

Just another committee that, waffles a lot, achieves very little and its member are so far up there own arse holes they will never see the light of day.
