      All this sudden rush to save the planet.

      I remember when you went shopping, say with just one bag. Potatos in first followed by other veg. Then groceries, eggs and bread being last, on top.

      Nowadays, you end up with several bags. Once home and unloaded and the goods stored away, you are left with a couple of bags of...bags, cartons and whatever. Happy days.

        She hopefully only has the "usual" 6 to 8 weeks of casts to endure. They have to change the casts each wwwk and this is not covered by our health care. $500 each week is hard for the kids to bear so I try to help whenever possible. Luckily the DIL's parens are being generous as well :)

          I thought 'wash' was a four letter word and was told by my mum never to use four letter words. :heehee:

          I rarely used plastic bags anyway - apart from 'bags for life' (have never had to replace one yet - although the checkout girl has offered one because there's a hole in one of them, but I only put big things in that bag). Small plastic bags aren't really necessary as I put whatever I need into the boxes. It has become more difficult at the supermarket for them to weigh things since they started using flat scales years ago. When I was a lad the scales all had scoops for weighing, which are much more practical for loose items. Nothing is stored in plastic bags at home.

          All the apples and pears we have picked and stored are kept very nicely in the cardboard boxes and then get used for the plant sales. We have also started using the large polystyrene boxes (same size as the cardboard boxes) for plant sales. These poly boxes are stacked out the back of the Asian wholesalers (friends of ours who help raise money for the charity) and are not recyclable. So both of us are happy that we can make other use of them. They're excellent if you need to keep pot plants in boxes (for sale or overwintering) where they may get wet. The cardboard boxes aren't suitable for that.

          The boxes are ones that are used for delicate foreign veggies that come in from abroad.

                      I went to Margate Hospital for what I thought was to have the Cataract op in my right eye.....
                      Well I'm back from the Hospital. The appointment letter headed, The ONE STOP Cataract Clinic.......After four different eye tests including drops that really stung I was told that I would't be have the op today...Not happy after building myself up to have it today.

                      The appointment letter will be in around weeks time for either Dover or Canterbury Hospital.

                          So sorry to hear that John. From what I have heard when attending Queen Mary's Sidcup (eye clinic) The operation for cataract is done by laser surgery and is all over in a blink of an eye. Such advancements have been made.                             Well my saga,if it can be called that about changing my ISP ended today. Briefly. I decided to leave Virgin Media,and signed upto Vodafone. They offered me a good package @£23 a month. Overhead cable was required and the setup fee of £60 was waived.
                            Appointment 1. BT Open Reach engineer failed to show up.
                            ditto 2 one week later. Appointment made for 1300hrs to 1800hrs. Engineer arrived at 10.00 am. He couldn't get his ladder close enough to the telegraph pole due to branches. Appointment 3 today 1300hrs to 1800hrs. Just turned 0800hrs phone rang, engineer arriving in 20 mins. Not being well,I was still in bed. Arrival of engineer and my blood pressure must have been sky high. This guy made all the excuses possible. He wanted to drill through the sitting rm wall, run the cable all over the place. In the end I told him to forget it.

                            Got back to Virgin Media and settled to stay with them on a new contract. Internet plus landline all free calls £30 a month with one month free, so I am saving almost £30 per month.

                            Annoying part is. VM took no notice of my complaints. Then when I said I was leaving. Then the offers were made.

                              Unfortunately that's pretty standard with most things today :doh: Customer loyalty doesn't count for much nowadays. :sad:

                              Each year I spend quite a bit of time renegotiating phone, internet, car insurance, home insurance, holiday insurance, energy supplier etc. and always get a much better deal when I say I'm shopping around.
