What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2019

I was meant to be raking leaves but the weather's dismal. Slow cooked stewing steak for tomorrow's meat pie and spent the afternoon sewing.

 

all day.

 

As it’s sunny today I’m going to clear some leafs and try and mow my lawn if it’s dried out enough and clear any dead plants.

 

I have brisket in the slow cooker for tonights meal. We really enjoy slow cooked meat at this time of year

 

Planted garlic, dug over area for broad beans, divided agapanthus and planted Sarcococca. Later plant out Echiums and a couple of clematis.

Spent the afternoon moving more pots of tender plants into the polytunnel. Some of the bigger pots have been put under the canopy to dry out a bit before moving them to the tunnel - no point in shifting excess weight of water too far.

My wife did comment that she was surprised at how many pots were still out - not half as surprised as me who was humping them about.

Shuffled a few plants into bigger pots including a brug and canary island date palm.

Then decided to risk cutting the lawn. We had a bit of drizzle but not enough to stop the job.

Had a reasonably productive weekend although theres still lots left to do.

I've been carrying on the mass fuchsia cut down.
I had major Gall Mite this year so I'm cutting all my fuchsias down to the ground, removing all debris and even scraping some of the soil away from around each plant.

I'm not overwintering any of my potted ones in my greenhouse in the hope a good cold spell will kill the gall mite off.

I've still got a couple more to do then I'm getting my petrol vac out and removing all the dropped leaves on my gravel path.
I'm also considering spraying the soil, around each plant, with dilute Jeyes fluid.

 

Carol cut the hedge and trimmed up the Brugs, we then started building winter protection for said Brugs, 2 down 1 to go, job for tomorrow.
