Wow, a day where I've not got anything specific planned. The house is tidy and all clean after another house viewing yesterday...and as I'm up and no sign of a headache (touch wood) I'm going to get out in the front garden and dig up the Gaillardia. They have been absolutely stunning and flowered for months on end. The last few weeks I've not bothered dead heading though and I can't face dead heading them all now, so going to get rid.

If we stay in this house i'm going to change the front garden colour theme so the colours won't go. Just a question though...are Gaillardias perennials or annuals? (tempted to dig them out and stick them up on a spare bed on the allotment instead of binning them).

It all depends on which one that you've got. They can be annuals and perennials.
You could try and leave them and see what happens next spring.

Probably an answer an hour too late. We've had them regrow for the last four or five years. Not sure of the variety but its a glaucous leaf and yellow/orange flower.

                    Same amazing display every year

A life long friend came to visit in the morning and it wasn't until the afternoon until I waved him goodbye and climbed into my scruffy, mucky, gardening clothes to get some jobs done. I returned to the 30 odd large pots of Iris that were waiting to be sorted out by lifting out the old, and new, corms. I threw the old, leafless corms into the Compost Bins, (well, nearly all, as my aim while kneeling down about 12' from the Bins didn't prove to be all that good:doh::heehee:), and then trimming the leaves and roots of the corms I chose to replant in the pots. By 4.30pm I done about 30 pots and had had enough of kneeling on the hard patio so decided to go for a amble around the garden with a Mug of Tea with Jenny, the cat:cat-kittyandsmiley:, acting as my shadow after supervising me sorting out the Iris. I've only got four more pots to do, but that's another day job, maybe tomorrow, but I'd had enough for the day. It's a major job done and I'm pleased it's almost done. The other job will be brushing the compost from the pots, on the Patio which looks more like a ploughed field at the moment, and picking up the spent corms which my lousey aim prevented them from landing in the Bins.:hate-shocked: My life long Pal didn't go away empty handed as his Wife is a keen gardener so I gave him about 7 good Iris corms to give to her. I told him that the names of the Iris were"Surprise"...........as I had forgotten the names of them and so the colours of the blooms would be a surprise:dunno::heehee::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:
