Mrs Shiney went to a talk at her gardening club and it was about preserving the bee habitat.

Here is the website of the man who gave the talk - he's only a 10 - 15 minute drive from us
What do you bee experts think of this idea?

A friend of mine has a beehive at his new property. He's got 10 acres so lots of air space for the fliers.

The beehive lady wanted me to invest in one but I have a very small yard which would not be suitable. Also, she said I could buy it however she owned whatever honey was collected! Two darned good reasons not to go there.

      Is Shineyland getting a hive?

That guy's idea is not to collect honey but to provide a habitat for them. Although I like the idea, I'm not convinced that his design is sturdy enough for the price.

We tend to have bees all over our garden most of the year because of the wide variety of bee friendly plants. There's the lovely sound of buzzing most of the time. :blue thumb: If this idea is a good one and provides a living space for them then I may be interested.

@Spruce do you have an opinion on the design? :)

I'd like to know what it looks like inside. It could be just a box on legs and those legs wouldn't keep it upright in windy weather. I certainly wouldn't pay £200 plus for it, in fact I wouldn't have thought it's worth half that.

Mrs Shiney has seen it and said it is very solid and she found she couldn't even lift it! :noidea: I don't know what it's like inside but could ask him as he's not far from here.

Sorry, I'm still not convinced. It's just as likely to attract wasps instead of bees. And I still think the price tag is too high.

what a load of rubish that suposed hive is a waste of time , bees can find a much cosier home believe me and beekeeping has changed so many bee disease around now which would need to be checked on periodically.... plus winter frost would easily penetrate the sides and kill them , the tall shape would cause it to be damp over winter with the build up of condesation and no one likes damp apart from frogs lol.

Ring up your Local Beekeeping society tell them you have space for one or two hives for a beekeper in the society and you will at the end of the summer have lots of jars of honey for free and with no work from yourselves that what I used to do where I kept my 4 the guy that owned the field very happy with the arrangment. Also make sure they have 3rd party insurance which I did just in case somthing awful happens escecialy with your open days you have ...

the F & G on the diogramme , bees dont lile to be sepertaed from the stores of honey as in winter they will be to cold to find them the more I look the more of a joke it is, Beekeepers woudnt be happy with any part of that suposed hive ...

Spruce ps sorry about the spelling lol

and the B: Live Biomass , how would any one like to live with that at the bottom of the house , mine all had mesh floors so ny mess would easily fall through and help keep the hive warm and dry and ...... talk about rose tinted glasses ....
