New kitchen and bathroom

All I can say is WOW!

Total Envy. Between the great property, the renos, the greenhouse, total, total envy!!!

Please keep us in the loop re: progress, etc. This is a fun thread

 

Wow! There's some work involved there and like Lori I'll be interested seeing the progress. Have you a rough end date for the renovation?

 

We had our bathroom re fitted by a local plumbing company that fitted bathrooms as well. We didn't choose the furnishings ourselves, just chose the tiles. Had to keep an eye on them to see that they did it right. Had a tiled floor but have to make sure that floorboards were secured to put tiles on.They didn't do a good job, a couple of tiles have cracked but they have put it right. The shower screen came off the wall because the wall wasn't straight, they replaced that with a different one that can be adapted to uneven walls. Had one of those heated towel rail that's joined to the central heating that's ok ,it was a good thing to have. Had a bath instead of a shower cubicle and a pump for the hot water for the separate shower fitting. Didn't have one of those electric showers.It cost about £3000.
We only had it done because the everything was old and didn't work anymore.

I don't think that we'll have the kitchen done,too much upheaval.

Ah, a very good reason for not having a finish date.

 

Completed a new kitchen about 6 years ago. Spent about a year prior doing research as to quality products. Our kitchen foot print was moved 18 inches larger, that little difference is great. A few things I discovered, if your going to use some hanging lights over a counter top, there is a measurement rule to go by to balance the width of the lights versus the counter top. (forgot it right now). and I used granite for the countertop, found a huge dealer which housed so many slabs in their place, 4 large planes could wing to wing sit in there. So many types of granite out there it is unreal. We also did the hallway bathroom, one major thing I liked about mine, for cleaning purposes, is we did a black marble floor and black grout, so easy cleaning. it was challenging often both projects, the kitchen more so as we moved appliances to different walls, so electric outlets had to be switches a little. I had a new kitchen almost three years ago. The cabinets, framework, hinges, handles, hob, oven, etc all came from Benchmarx. The kitchen is their solid wood range but they have a range of kitchens in different materials. I bought mine when they had a sale on so saved some £'s. They have fridges and sinks too. They also have a range of work tops in different materials, including wood, but I wanted granite. The only knowledge I have of solid wood work tops is that they require regular oiling to maintain them. I don't know if they would withstand a lot of wear and tear, especially from direct heat or chopping.
