How very sad Philip. And here we are praying for it.

 

I hope the water level starts to drop very soon. You live close by, is your own home safe from being flooded?

 

@Victoria ,..hi Victoria,..you praying for rain and us praying for dry weather,..too much of either one is hard to live with for long periods,..its seldom a fair balance.

@Sheal ,..yes i live about 200 yards from the river but i am on a gradual high hill,..this present rise in the river began in August which was very early compared to other years,..it will be next March before the water completely drops and the meadows can be walked again,..the usual question is how high will it be this year,..my guess very high.

I presume you've had quite a wet year in Ireland this year, more so than normal? Let's hope the river stays within it's bounds in the weir area. Only in recent weeks has the ongoing rain stopped here, there's only been short breaks from it since last winter. But with very little flat ground to speak of, it's not really a problem.

 

@Sheal,..Glad to read that your rain spell has stopped,..as for here its a daily downfall but luck will have it not often early in the morning,..luck for the dog walk,..a few gloomy images below and one not too depressing,..these days i am up to my neck helping friends take boats from the water,..then helping some spray clean then do maintenance so i fall asleep after evening meal.

 

Well it had! Today has been wet and the weekend is looking the same at the moment. Your pictures look dramatic but I like them, we don't always want to look at perfect blue skies. I lived on the Isle of Man (for 24 years) until three years ago and the weather there is very much like Ireland's.

Not an easy job removing boats I would have thought, and not surprising you're asleep later in the day, I'm sure it's well earned.

 

@Sheal ,..ah your rain has returned and your predicted rain for the weekend is here,..rain all day,..yes the weather on the Isle of Man is similar to us,..you lived there for quite long time,..do you miss being there?.

My early morning walk with the dog found me in the local park at 0730 in the morning that's when the three images were captured below,..that's foam not ice lol.

Just came across your thread @glengarry23 what a truly stunning area to live in.

We live in a semi rural area surrounded by woodlands and fields . A very old disused clay quarry that is now a beautiful secluded lake is opposite our house and that too is now home to a lot of wildlife. Our lane is a closed one with only a few houses scattered along it and so it's very quite with only horse riders and dog walkers using it. All our 'children' live in London. Love going to see them obviously but feel suffocated and can't wait to take a deep breath of air when back home.
Will definitely be following your great thread from now on.

 

No, not at all. After so many years the island became claustrophobic in a way, being so small. Mr S and I have always loved Scotland and I've read a lot about it's history down the years - still do. I/we feel at home here. My elder daughter and grandchildren still live on the island so we'll be back there visiting at Christmas/New Year. Our first visit since we left.

I'm sorry you've now got rain. If it's any consolation it's still horrible here and it's not due to break until Tuesday, when the temperature is supposed to plummet. I'd rather have it cold and dry though.

 

@Upsydaisy ,..I'm delighted you found my Thread also that you like the area i live in,..yes i believe you would like it here at least for the peace and quiet plus the wildlife and scenery.

There is of course a small town which can be noisy so its great to have an escape to nature as often as possible,..similar to how you feel when visiting London,..your description of where you live appeals to me in fact it sounds beautiful.

@Fat Controller ,..ah yes you would like it hereabouts,..its a water and boat area with good fishing,..the river is approx 362 kilometers long and where we are is about half way along,..so all the rain that falls from about 181 kilometers upriver passes here but that's not the problem,..as you rightly suggested it is how the waterways are managed,..if the next weir downriver holds back the water of course it builds up here and so it works that way all the remainder of the 181 kilometers downriver to the sea,..of course with buildings built on reclaimed land from the river,..the water has to rise along the way,..more attention is being directed in the past two years to building walls and barriers to keep the river at bay,..perhaps a tad too late.

@Sheal ,..nice to read you found nicer surroundings,..me being a City dweller i find the countryside really suits me and i am here 25 years now,..i guess Scotland would be someplace i would also like.

Still it will be a nice visit for you at Christmas and New Year,..a family reunion is a morale booster.
