Ode To Joy is the anthem of the EU

Rowan Atkinson sang it many years ago.

The double standards of the Americans continues . They all go nuts because they think those pesky Russians are interfering in the Us elections and at the same time they meddle in ours.

But they go further by threatening the Scots during their referendum and then threaten the British as a whole during the Brexit vote.

And that was done by the oh so lovely barack obama.

Donald Trump should keep his nose out of our affairs. The man is a prat of the first degree.

It always amazes that Labour talks about nationalizing every industry in sight so that we get everything for free:yes::hapfeet::hapydancsmil:, and then quietly says, as an aside, that our Taxes will go up so that we can get everything for "free":hate-shocked:

Sorry @WeeTam , two totally different things going on here. The beef with Trump and the Russians Is ( allegedly ) about bribery, cash and sanctions etc .
He is merely voicing opinions when he comments on ours.

I agree with you, KFF, completely. But, comments coming from Trump are not exactly received as being welcome and also describing Politicians in positive words makes those Politicians feel really negative.:wallbanging::doh::hate-shocked::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

As I remember it. Post war Britain. Practically everything was nationalised, state owned. Then a new government suggested opening things up and de-nationalizing. I have to admit, whilst being non political. I saw this as a step in the right direction. A move to as it was following the war, to get the country out of a rut. To me then and now. IMO to run a country or nation resembles running a business. The latter automatically invites competition. Furthermore IMO the growth and power given to the unions, who undoubtedly have become perhaps the largest political party in the land. Their intervention/involvemet cocked it all up. Back to. """"It's Free""" Forget it.

Over 2,000 years ago (I remember it well :old: :heehee:) Virgil said "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts" (but he said it in Latin).

The promises of free things from all our politicians brings that saying very much to mind.

The one that has stood out in the last few days is the 'Free high speed broadband for all' statement with the addition that BT shall be nationalised. For it to be free for everyone they would need to nationalise (buy :rolleyespink:) all the infrastructure owners and all the suppliers that piggy back on them. I understand that could run into hundreds but it must be at least dozens.

They will have to borrow billions (latest estimate mentioned on the radio yesterday was over 200bn ) and we are the ones that would have to foot the bill for the interest on the loan and for the eventual repayment of the money borrowed.

If a government can afford to do that then I would prefer them to spend that money on the health service and improving the transport system.

Profligacy doesn't win my vote! Neither does impossible promises. :nonofinger:

                      @wiseowl for Prime Minister!!! :yay:

I've said it before - Labour are just promising anything that comes into their tiny heads. No way on earth to pay for it nor manage the infrastructure after its all nationalised. Cloud cuckoo land.
On the broadband front, a kick up the a**e of bt would get rural areas connected

We're a rural area that is now 'connected'. We still have the rubbish copper wiring from the fibre box!

It has taken them a year of us being connected to have brought our Download speed soaring to 13Mbps and our Upload speed to a massive 0.7Mbps!!!!
