Up here in Canada, it is called a convection oven. As everyone knows, convection refers to airflow which naturally does create a circular motion however lots of heat stays trapped against the ceiling in a room. A fan helps stir up and evenly distribute the heat and that's why many of us have overhead fans to help circulate our air conditioning.

I baked several dozen cookies yesterday using the convection function on my oven and I had to cut down the bake times by a few minutes such as 12-14 minute cookies took only 10 or 11. A bonus when you've got as many to bake as I have. It is dandy for those low and slow bake items too. My meringues (200f) three trays and all baked/dried evenly. I do not use the convection very often though when baking bread. I don't know why but for some reason I worry about hurrying it along.

As @redstar says, the delay bake and timed bake functions on these are quite handy. I use mine when roasting things that don't need me to hover over them. I rarely use the actual minute minder because I have a portable one that I can slip into my pocket when I leave the room for a few minutes or leave it on the refrigerator because it is magnetic. The timer on the oven only "pings" about 5 or 6 times so if I miss that short alarm, I'm out of luck. The portable one never shuts up until I reset it. :)

I think @Logan you'll enjoy how the oven operates. It is a time and energy saver and those lovely smells of baking or roasting fill the house a little quicker too! :)

oh, and the portable timer is great to use when grandkids are warring over how long each one got to be on the computer. Now, A sets the timer for B and when B is done on the computer, B sets the timer for A. Takes away any arguments and keeps things fair ;)

I'm glad you're getting a brand new unit and right before the holidays too! I've had mine for just under 25 years and if it broke down would try to get a duplicate. :)

Thank you, had the old one for about 30 years but couldn't get the same make and I wanted a ceramic hob instead of the old rings that are too difficult to clean. :)

Here's the hottest of the Hot, fan assisted :heehee:

Back to the topic, fan assisted ovens are the absolute best as you can cook several dishes evenly in one heating. Saves on time and bills. The possibility to switch the fan off is great should you ever feel the need to make souffles. Cooking times are usually noted on recipes which is helpful until you get used to the extra boost.

Our current one is a gas one, never again.

Convection oven. Seems I typed the "F" instead of the "V". It is call a convection oven here in the USA also.

My oven also has a meat thermometer in the oven. You push one end in the receptor, and the thermometer end goes in the roast, then you set the temp and level of done you want, rare, medium, well. Then it peeps when at that level you wanted. Be honest, never used it. I am to old hand at roasting to have to deal with something like that.

Not sure if yours has a self cleaning oven, mine does. But recall the instructions that for the "First" time you turn on the self cleaning oven part, have all windows open, for I guess added fumes that are in the oven from building of it.

and I guess I should add that my Stove (we call them stoves here) has another oven on the bottom, its like a drawer, can bake things like pies, or a tin of cookies, or a bread pan with meatloaf in it, its about that high. On my Stove I have 5 burners, they are gas flames.

Oh, yes @redstar it is self cleaning. They said not to leave the racks in whilst it cycles if I wanted to maintain the chrome look which is only cosmetic. So first time I ran that choice, I left the racks in. I don't like cleaning racks and wasn't worried about the rack inspector showing up. It's only me that uses the oven anyway. :)

Wow, that sounds fantastic. Mine is a single oven, built in. They didn't have all that neat stuff back then. Kept my old electric stove and put it in the cellar. It has zero options other than on, broil, temperature and off... but it's oven is humongous so that is where I roast turkeys over the 30 pound size.

Maybe next time I'm out, I'll look at tne appliances just for the fun of seeing what's new :)

I do a lot of cooking and also do it for a lot of people. I'm quite happy to cook for 20, 30 or 40 people (it's one of my hobbies :blue thumb:).

Gas is my favourite way of cooking and I wouldn't be without it, especially the hobs.

My hobs are cast iron, very heavy but easy to clean. Also, being cast iron they spread the heat better.

We have two large ovens, one is fan assisted, a slow cooker (bottom right), and a large grill (top left).

The oval glass at the back is an electric warmer. Ideal for keeping things just warm or for melting chocolate etc.

The ring in front of it is a wok burner and has two circles of gas to give extra high heat. The hob plate on the right can be replaced by another plate that is a griddle - solid cast iron with two sections, one being ridged and the other flat.

It's a pleasure to work with :dbgrtmb:

                            This is my old one
                            The top part.
20191216_093258.jpg The double oven, the top one is a combined oven and grill
The bottom one is the main oven. Had replacement parts for some of it but can't get them anymore and the top oven doesn't heat up like it used to, but it's 30 years old.
20191216_093341.jpg Had to get it out so i could clean down the sides of the cupboards and the cooker. Hadn't been done for a few years because it's very difficult to get out. I found 2 dessert spoons down there and lots of dog hair and grease.
