Ours isn't free freestanding, but we do open up the IMG_20191217_132404.jpg vent grids and feed the vacuum cleaner hose through it to get the cobwebs!! It's just over 35 yrs old and still looks and cooks perfectly. Who ever invented self-help clean..thank you:love30:

@Upsydaisy , I see your cook top is elsewhere over on the counter top.

Here it is normal to have 3 gas and one electric hob. In 20 years I have never used the electric one. Cookers are always electric. Mine is situated in the corner.

Some years back our gas cooker was written off by the engineer. Our local council are very good at keeping up with the yearly gas checks. Looking back. It does appear tat this engineer was new and according to neighbours, he wrote off so many appliances.

Never mind. The gas cooker was begining to become a pain, as Val was a truly great cook and pastry cook, so it might be said, the cooker was never off. For ease of cleaning and also to avoid further write-offs, we decide to go electric. I set to build all the kitchen fitments etc. I purchsed a seperate top unit in glass and four burners. So much easier to keep clean. The seperate oven is electric, fan assisted with the grill facility in the top of the oven. Never used it.

Now being on my own most cooking is done in the halogen oven, simply a large glass bowl with halogen heating. If I invite friends for a meal, then I will use the main oven.

My cooking preference is to use gas, natural or butane/propane. To me, the heat control is so much better. Here in the UK political talk in relation to climate change etc. The phasing out of gas and operating so much by electric, does give cause for a raised eyebrow. What's your choice?

It would take machinery to move ours as it's so heavy (or two strong men). :rolleyespink:

Our choice is most definitely gas. The phasing out of gas is only a pipe (no pun intended ) dream. They're talking of phasing out gas central heating boilers and gas appliances but have been discussing it for the last five years. They hope that new builds will be compelled to use other methods of heating within 15 years but I don't think the will to do it is there. also, they have said that older houses will still be able to replace existing heating systems with other gas systems.

Ground source heat pumps are good but need more ground space than most of the smaller new builds can accommodate at the moment. Air source heat pumps don't work very well in our climate :noidea:.

It would be easier to phase out gas cookers by just not building any new ones. The government had said that although they wish to phase out gas appliances they will not compel any existing ones to be removed. They reckon there are somewhere around 30 million gas appliances in houses and if they try to phase those out too quickly then we shall need a lot of landfill!

Thanks but I'll be alright, today made some mince pies and they came out fine. Just reduce the temperature a bit, but not too much or it will take longer. :blue thumb:

You're all welcome to come and check it.:blue thumb:

I prefer electric, it's so much cleaner and the ceramic hob doesn't take so long to heat up, when the rings are turned off the heat stays there for a while, so can turn it off before it's needed.

Yes @redstar it's inset into the worktop.

We are all electric, did pay a hell of a lot to have gas pipes laid all the way up our lane many years ago but then decided against bringing in actually into the house. Much prefer electric for everything.:dbgrtmb:

I used to use Hob Brite Cleaner which is a liquid. I then discovered Astonish which is a much better cleaner and is like a form of soft soap.

Truly don't know, as I don't need it. But in the store the bottle tells you, at least I have seen pictures on bottles for that type of stove top. and guess the instructions with the stove would say something.

We've just been recommended to use Astonish by a professional oven cleaner. He comes in once a year and cleans both ovens and the grill. Although we keep them clean he does a fantastic job and only charges £50 (we are no longer able to crouch down, lean forward and put in too much effort into the cleaning). We keep the oven racks clean but never seem able to properly get to some of the awkward joins in the racking. He dips them into a chemical bath.

The hobs are easy to keep clean as they're removable, cast iron and easy to scrub in the sink. :blue thumb:

Thanks it all depends on what we can get.
Thanks, the manual says to get one for that type of hob.

Got a self cleaning interior on both ovens, so don't have to worry about cleaning. It will only be the shelves to clean and the bottom of them. I put foil on the bottom of the ovens just incase,i never use the grill.
