I bought my mum a bonsai for xmas. I saw some recently in a garden centre but they were all too small. A bit of research told me there was a specialist bonsai nursery 15/20 minutes drive from here. I picked this one up this morning. It cost slightly more than I was anticipating but I had already decided to buy one no matter what.

@ARMANDII we're going to have to send you food parcels of flies and greenflies for your carnivorous plants - you'll have so many they'll starve to death otherwise! You're being naughty again...

Well, there was a lot of flies around this year, Caroline, so I'm just doing my bit to lower the level of pests:heehee:. Some of the names of the Venus Flytrap I've already got are a bit "frightening" such as "Sawtooth", "Red Piranah", Red Dragon!!.......so look out flies!! It's Christmas so pass the glass of Golden Amber and don't stick your fingers near the plants.:hate-shocked:

Well, the postage was nearly £8 but over a certain amount it was free, so I bought another plant and got basically two thirds of a plant for "free"

Ah, My scientific mind has gone into overdrive. Which part of the plant made up the two thirds??????

Another Christmas present for myself, a Leatherman Gardening Knife to replace a knife that got lost somewhere. This one will be attached to the belt of my Gardening Trousers so will be better than in a pocket. I was going to buy a Perkins Knife but decided to go for the below.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

I went to the garden centre to look for xmas lights. I came away with this dwarf rhododendron for £5. I have a couple of ideas where I can stand it. It all depends on how much sun it will tolerate.

That's a good buy, Jack:love30::thumbsup: Any idea of the variety? I've got alkaline soil in my garden so acid soil loving plants are a no no:nonofinger: While I do grow some shrubs in large containers, I wouldn't grow Rhodies in one.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Hi @ARMANDII it has a label on it so I will look next time I go out to it. It's going to have to live in a pot for the time being. If it doesn't take to it then I will have to pass it on. I wont be losing out either way.
