LATEST MOAN FROM YOU AND ME 2019

We don't have any paths along our lane and all the surrounding fields that were once homes to a dairy herd are now all let to horse owners . It's quite scary to drive pass the young children when they ride them up and down our lane. That lane has sharp bends and is quite narrow.
Likewise with dog owners. They have their dogs either on fully extended leads or worse still off them completely!! Hubs and our other 3 neighbours always drive slowly in anticipation of them but we still receive looks of ' what the hell are you doing driving up here'!!!

The really scary bit is that so many people are listening to music with headphones on and are totally unaware of their surroundings.!

 

Its very similar around here, farming seems to be on the way out and horses are everywhere.
Is it just a sign of changing times, I would have thought that with rising population we would be farming more and more, but it seems to be in a decline, and leisure activities seem to be taking over the countryside.
We then import practically everything.

 

Horses are King in our town ,there are 3,500 highly strung thorobreds crossing the road at all times to get to the heath ,there is very rarely any accidents as all us humans know our place.

 

Our son lives in Worcester he hasn't got a car so he relies on public transport. When he comes to see us ,we live in Redditch he used to use a coach because it would come straight here with no stops. They've stopped it on weekends, I would have thought that it would be the busiest time. So he gets the train,to get here he has to go to Birmingham first and change trains to come here, then a bus to where we live.
They're trying to get us to not use cars if anyone has one, but make it more difficult to use public transport.

 

Yes public transport hasn't yet done a very good job at persuading people to ditch their cars.
We are normally OK here and it's only an hours train journey from London ,but this Christmas has seen a few hitches, eldest son was fine but youngest had to do a change mid journey for some reason.
Buses are far and few between and if like our youngest did they arrive in the evening then there are absolutely no buses at all.
We've always told them that we'll pick them up from the station. Once they let us know that they are actually on their train we then track it in real time and that allows us to pick them up on time, even it there have been delays.

 

We would have to drive 5 miles just to catch a bus, then if you get one you wouldn't be able to get back as no buses run in the afternoons

 

Similar here too @Jiffy ..If I wanted to catch a bus over to my Dad's I then have to walk back as there aren't any pm buses here either. Madness isn't it!!

 

I know it's difficult for people who live rural, but this is in the cities.

 

If I went to work on public transport, it would involve a bus and a train, or a bus then a change to another bus.
I'd probably be late every day as they dont start early enough and the journey would take three times as long, plus I'd have to walk a fair distance.
I'd then have to do it all over again after work and the cost would probably be, although I've never worked it out, at least twice what it is by car.

I feel sorry for anyone who is reliant on public transport.

Now if I was going to London every day, ......I dont think there would be an option really.

 

As I said our son had problems coming from London. Our buses are rubbish and seeing as we connect with the cities of both Southampton and Winchester I think it's bad sevice . Our very local local shopping area is classified as a town as is Reddich, so we can't expect miracles from town based services anymore.

Could you not pick your son up from the station as we do, might make his journey a little easier.

 

What about going to Bromsgrove that's only about 6 miles from you ,he could catch a bus to you or get picked up. It would be easier that going up to Birmingham and then back down to Redditch.

 

Thanks @Upsydaisy he's very independent and wouldn't expect for us to pick him up.He's decided to come during the week so he can use the coach that will come straight here to Redditch.

I did that once, i got one bus into town, another to bromsgrove, then to Worcester, then another to where i wanted to go. The bromsgrove to Worcester bus would be every hour on the hour.

 

I like driving lorry's, never late for work as it was my home as well :rasp: sometimes for weeks on end when over the water could be home for 6-8 weeks

 

That good that he's all sorted now.

Our brood are very independent too but they normally arrive in the evening after work and after battling through London's +Waterloo's rush hour. They, like your son, don't expect a lift but we always insist as it only takes a few minutes by car.
