The new project

They always used to check my loft after they had a look inside my greenhouse.

 

OY- aren't you starting to do some clearing or mending at the greenhouse whilst waiting for the water to do it's disappearing trick?

 

Aren't you going to be having fun with all the renovations . My house was a total do up job when I bought it and 8 years later it's still not finished ......... there's always something. Good luck with your new home

 

That budget made my toes curl but it looks like the sort of project where the money will make a huge difference.

We kept a spreadsheet of house renovation costs when we started in 2000 up to converting the barn into a 2 bed annexe in 2003. Ive just opened it as I'd put the numbers out of my mind. Back then we spent £185K in renovation and have since replaced a lot of the fitted items (bathrooms and the likes). Crazy to think that renovation costs were higher than our house purchase price.

 

I think when you look at your plans it all becomes to make a bit of sense. Theres not going to be much of the original bungalow left

Edit : Heres what was left of our barn. The front wall was removed as it was leaning out by 10". The far side wall was left - that's rendered and facing the neighbours (the gable fell down as it was a single skin of blockwork). The near side wall is an internal wall - theres a lump of new build jutting out of there. But we had to play the councils game and 'renovate' the barn

 

Theyre not playing games are they ! Great to see a bit of demolition followed by the new look. Your kitchen was a bit newer than ours - we had the chicken tiles in mustard with dark brown lines and white kitchen doors with an aluminium rail at the top …. nice !

How long before you plan to move in ?

 

I can imagine. And the early months will be lots of outlay with not a lot to be seen for the expense. We planned to do something similar but a first time buyer offered us the asking price if we could complete in a month so we moved from a 5 year old house in perfect condition to what could only be described as a slum. Me asking myself 'what have I done ?' quite often.
The pain is worth it in the end though.
