It's good to have you on board @CanadianLori and your comments are very welcome as you speak from an onlookers point of view. :blue thumb: Do you think your fellow Canadians opinions of Brexit are split very much like the British?

Not at all. I do not know anyone over here who has not thought that the relationship was outdated given the present migration and political climates being forced on all members without proper consideration for their consequences. If all was fair as far as financial issues were concerned perhaps the downside of the other burdens might be palatable but there is zero, in my mind, advantage for Britain being a member.

Parasitic money moving while enforcing oppressive policies could never be acceptable to me.

The British are a clever lot and are up to battling an economic war or anything else thrown their way. It is only the barbaric who use physical weapons to try to dominate.

And this is only an emotional reaction on my part, but the arrogance. Of all the unmitigated gall! Stick it I say.

Oh, and I DO like Boris' hair. Not a Donald vanity do, just a poke at himself. Found oit he's got a gal. Too bad, I might have applied for that position...:heehee:

Just another thought that popped into my mind, while musing in what comes after Brexit and a new alternative thread to the present Brexit thread. So instead of instead of just turning the present Brexit thread loose in to the "Off Topic" Forum as an old thread we might lock it off, so no further posts can be made, and keep it as a sticky thread so that's it's easy to refer to, and browse, alongside the new Thread.:coffee:

Nicola would be wise to wait - before going for another independence referendum and then possibly rejoining the EU. I think that she will change her mind when she sees the EU disintegrating. Plus she would have the sticky problem of an EU member state with a land border with a non EU member. A major issue for the EU when it came to Ireland - I wonder if the same arguments would apply if Scotland rejoin the EU?

Rejoining the EU is giving up independence.

I agree with you completely, clanless. But I don't think Sturgeon or her colleagues see it that way:dunno: All they can think about is breaking away from the UK in a blinkered Corbinite way i.e: they are right and everyone else is wrong regardless of the consquences to their country.
Sturgeon wants to use the Sterling pound after any Independence until they joined the EU but wouldn't meet the criteria with the EU for joining the Euro. So the question is should the UK let an independent country have use of the Pound Sterling with all the financial consequences that could entail to the Sterling should Scotland's economy plunge???

Ahhh the 'Queen of Scots' or so she'd like to think:rolleyespink:
I cannot think for the life of me what she thinks she has to gain by all this wittering nonsense because Scotland a place I love I might add would be up the creek without a sodding paddle.

The Scots are not daft (you could say they are canny...) - they can see right through Nicola's plans. She needs to concentrate on local Scottish priorities - not wasting time talking about independence. As the UK we've just wasted over 3 years trying to get Brexit through - I hope the Scots don't now endure a further 3 years with Nicola droning on about independence

The heady days of North Sea oil contributing substantially to the UK coffers have gone.

I see that in the news today there is talk about Welsh independence - are these people deluded? We wouldn't stand a cats chance as an independent country - there's not enough people/industry here in Wales to consider independence.

We are stronger together as they say :blue thumb:

It seems that there are a lot more daft Scots now than there was before I left! In many ways I find it really hard to believe that folks continue to vote for that wee nyaff and her band of followers - especially given the utter botch job that they are making of public services. You should see some of the nonsense that swirls around from some of the SNP supporters too - load of bull about how much money a barrel of oil is worth and how much England steals of that price.

The saddest thing of all for me is that I used to dream of the day that I would return home to live and work, but the whole time that bunch of wasters are running the show, I couldn't even contemplate going back.

The thing that I don't actually get about Scottish independence is that they are part of the United Kingdom, so why do they consider Westminster to be governing them, as I seem to think, off the top of my head they have about 49 MPs at Westminster.
That sounds to me to be a pretty good representation for a country of less than 6 million.

Yes, they are in the minority at Westminster, but they do have their own Parliament as does Wales and N. Ireland,(when it sorts itself out), England doesn't have its own Parliament.

I've always said if Scotland gets independence, then England should also,.

I wonder what would happen if they gave England a vote in the next Scottish independence referendum.:biggrin:

And it's always England that is the supposed oppressor, but that is about population and share of MPs, nothing more.

Well I must admit the two arguments do seem similar.
Let Scotland go, if it wants to, I say.

But I still think we would be better out of the EU along with what it is, and is becoming.

Well, the next Scottish Parliamentary election is on 6th May 2021, by which time the Scottish public will have had time to ponder on how Brexit has gone and what effect it has on them, how well the SNP have governed them in running their NHS, Schools, Police, and Social Services which, as it stands at the moment, ain't the best or will they find the SNP has totally ignored those elements and are still ranting on about Indpendence.
The SNP will always blame the UK Government for the state of the Scottish economy no matter what unless they can take any credit for any improvement. This last national General Election can be argued that the SNP made Independence their main element in their manifesto while, in fact, the Scottish public actually voted on the Brexit element to remain. If that is true then there's a fair chance that on 6th May 2021 the public will only be voting on just how well the SNP have improved the Scottish NHS, Schools, Police and Social Services over those 18 months. That could mean that if the SNP might been exposed as unable to have improved the economy, and all the other elements of the vital public services then they could suffer in the Scottish Parliamentary election as the Independence stance will have less power.:coffee:

More like having Brexit blocked and frustrated with MP's disregarding what their constituents voted for in the Referendum.
