The fly in the ointment there @ARMANDII is that the Scots (generally speaking) won't vote for Conservative under any circumstances, and the other parties are curios at best. If Labour were as they should be, and much stronger, then people in Scotland would have something of a choice - but as it stands, Labour have disregarded their core voters, so who do the people in Scotland have left to vote for? Lets be honest, Boris only got the majority he did because people voted mostly on the issue of Brexit - many, many of those votes are only 'on loan'

I think there's a large element of truth about that, FC. But there's also, in my opinion, several other factors that caused Northern, long standing, Labour voting constituents to cross over to the Conservatives. Bexit was definitely an issue for sure, but mostly because of Corbyn, the three Stooges, the Lib Dem', SNP, and the old Conservative "establishment", blocking every move that was made to get Brexit completed and the deliberate denial to get the 2016 Referendum honoured. Most Labour voters who were not Labour Party members, especially the more "mature" voters are middle of the road and were not happy with the move of the Labour Party to the extreme Left. Then the nearly 4 year stagnation/bickering/arrogance and the extreme policies proposed by the Labour Shadow Cabinet over the 4 years and the public suppression of those MP's and party members who disagreed with the Corbynites, had a great accumulative effect. Labour voters, young or old, are not thick and they were not fooled by the Labour Paradise Policies of the General Election where everything would be free. They looked at the policies and then asked "how are they going to be paid for?" with the older members remembering Blair and Brown bankrupting the UK without even an apology.
One of the greatest "gifts" to the Conservatives was, of course, Corbyn as he was the most disliked Leader of the Labour Party by the general voter as a person and for his extremism.
Of course the Labour Party itself is still extreme Left, refusing to recognise that that was what made Labour unvotable. The fact that it looks like members of the Labour Front Bench are vying for the Leadership means that Labour will still be extreme Left after the Leader election and for years to come.
So, yes, some of those "cross over" votes are on loan to Boris and he's greatly aware of that, and some will return to voting Labour if and when the Labour Party returns to the middle of the road policies but a lot will stay with the Conservatives if they carry out their pledges and Manifestos.:coffee:

I don't disagree with you there - however, that is not going to 'fix' the SNP problem, as folks clearly didn't go with Boris in Scotland but rather went with that stupid wee lassie and her merry crew.

Totally agree with you, FC. The General Election did not, and wasn't designed or meant to solve the Scottish Independence issue, but it has an element of Corbynism in it. Corbyn extremism proposed policies that was blind to the consequence for the country and the lessons that History teaches, (while being mostly ignored). Scottish Nationalism is running a parallel course in many ways to Corbynism envisaging that only they can lead Scotland to great National and Economic glory while also ignoring the economic dangers and grief it will lead the Scottish people to. Only the Scottish people can sort it out and decide their future as they did in the Scottish Independence Referendum where they decided at the time to stay in the UK. Having said that, extremists like the SNP don't accept any Referendum other than the one that they alone want.:dunno::coffee:

You've got to admit there are similarities between Scotland wanting independence from the UK and the UK, Okay, maybe just England, wanting independence from the EU?

Its a very similar parallel, if not can someone explain the difference?

If Scotland want to go it alone and then try to rejoin the EU I say good luck to them, it wont be easy, but if that is what they want why should we stop them.

Well, I don't think it would be good for the UK or for the Scottish people to break up the UK just because an extremist party, albeit in Parliamentary Government, to demand another Referendum just like Labour, Lib Dem's and other Remainers did during the nearly 4 years of stagnation of Brexit. Just because the SNP are shouting and raging for another Referendum that they didn't like the result of, and never will, doesn't detract from the fact a referendum result should be respected.......or haven't we learnt the lesson of Brexit?:doh::wallbanging::dunno::coffee:

But you have to admit, things have changed since the last ref that they had.
We are now leaving the EU, and I'm not sure why most voted for the SNP, was it just out of patriotism and a lousy Labour party, or was it the Brexit thing, as I'm sure a large part of the vote in England was swayed by Brexit and Labours dithering.

A part of all those @pete and voters possibly thinking they will get another chance at a referendum, which if it happens I still think will be a bigger 'NO' than last time. As they currently stand I could never bring myself to vote SNP even though it goes against the majority.

Dumfries & Galloway and Borders were both over 60% in favour of Brexit, so will Ms Surgeon 'honour' their wishes, as the UK is supposed to 'honour' hers? New border just south of Edinburgh and Glasgow?

All services currently 91% subsidised by the UK as a whole, e.g. island ferries, postal deliveries etc., will become a 100% Scottish matter and, with 600 million EU residents entitled to go to an EU Scotland, where do we build the wall? Come in Donald.

The Scots will have to fund embassy representation all over the world, have their own DVLA and armed forces, and find replacement occupations for those employed in naval establishments currently located north of the border. All from 5.4 million taxpayers!
