To be fair, they weren't all on their mobiles.

These people were there to pray

But some of them had mobile hands :heehee:

I have a mobile that is kept charged and not turned off but I only shared the number with family. They'll call my landline first and only text my mobile if there is something urgent and tney faioed to reach me at home.

I always take mine to the shops because I have a Reebee app that lets me go through sales flyers and select items I want to pick up whilst on offer. It creates a shopping list and is darned handy.

I like having it with me because I am a lousy photographer and I can snap things that interest me, using the mobile, and know that I wouldn't do any better with my camera so this little Blackberry Passport does just fine. (They call it a Passport because it is the size of one. Lovely big screen and hard keyboard, old broad friendly)

I use it to text once in awhile. I have never used it whilst driving or walking.... or chewing bubble gum :heehee:

I never use it in company. No matter where I am.

I find it is useful now and again. It will never replace my landline because in a power outage, my landline still functions quite nicely ;)

We have people round for dinner quite often. Mobiles are banned and only allowed, on silent, if there's something possibly urgent expected.

We have a lot of power cuts at home (17 last year) and we still keep an old fashioned plug in phone for those situations. Otherwise we have cordless phones (with answerphones and call blocking) for our landlines. The cordless phones don't work in a power cut but the old fashioned ones do. :blue thumb:

But it's a more modern old fashioned one

The one that we had when we first moved in here acquired by the BT Museum (they wanted it mainly for the box on the well that contained the bell). Our telephone number in those days was only three digits! :rolleyespink: They're still the last three digits of our current number.

I've got one of those too Shiney but mines a bit older than yours and cream coloured. A telephone engineer gave it to us free of charge many moons a go. It's still pretty much brand new as it's only been used a few times.

On Good Parenting Points, I'm not doing very well now that The Teenager is a legal adult. My friends just can't sleep until the young ones are safely back, and I try to mirror this by asking The Teenager to text me if she is late.

Well, she says she'll be back around 8. At 9 I text her "still alive...?" and after an hour receive a reply "alive", which I miss as I have already fallen asleep.

Apparently, Good Parents can't fall asleep until their offspring is safely under the roof, but I can happily sleep through 10 texts and a person entering the front door without noticing.

When I was young, I was told to leave a note on the kitchen table stating where I am and with whom. There was no way to reach me, apart from people walking around and calling in loud voice.

That's older than mine Lori. What vintage would it be, 70's or 80's?

Hmm, I think it's the late 70's. Got an older one than that one. :)

Mine gets switched off at night, it's on silent most of the day and I never check it in social situations. I do find it very convenient though. I use it in preference to my landline as I'm either at the office or in the garden/allotment. I top up about every 12 months for £20 so I don't make that many calls. If I could I would drop our landline as no-one rings that now. I check the GC forum on my phone but only when it's on a 'free' WiFi connection. I don't post much using the phone as I find it tiring looking at the small screen and hate the tiny virtual keyboard, so I use a PC in preference.

I use my smart phone a fair bit for work, I use various phone apps for billing time and expenses. I can review and sign contracts for new work. It does my business accounts much more easily than in the past. I did my VAT return last week in a few minutes and that links to my accountant who then checks and files it online for me. It also feeds to my bank, I haven't been near a bank branch in years thank god.

The only thing I don't use is contact-less payments, only because I don't trust the technology at the present. I probably will at some time in the future.

The cameras on smart phones have really improved recently and I take all my photos with it. Its good not having to carry a bulky camera around.

I couldn't do without my phone right now as it's only way I can open/close and start my car - I didn't get a normal key with it! I am not sure that is a good idea and that's a cause of some anxiety in case my phone runs out of power or stops working leaving me stranded somewhere. I wouldn't get a car with that feature again.

@JWK It seems to me that you are mainly using your smart phone as a tool and not letting it rule your life. That's exactly the way it should be. :blue thumb:

The problem, according to most of the research, is that the younger generations (at my age that is in the plural :heehee:) allow it to rule their lives to such an extent that it causes phobias - now being called Nomophobia.

These first two are contrived :noidea:

There are now medical reports on physical conditions due to texting. RSI of the thumbs is becoming fairly common and there are now reports of bone irregularities in the neck from having their heads bent for so long. :hate-shocked:

                          I've got a smartphone,

I have it on all the time

I don't take it to the loo

Never go out to have a meal

I take it out with me when i go anywhere

I don't look at it when eating or on the table.

I don't phone anyone with it

                          I send messages with it.

                          I use it for emergencies

                          I goggle things with it.

Last but not least I go onto forums with it and not a computer

As I mentioned before I only have basic one, much to all our sons annoyance...they want to get me a smartphone, but I don't need one.
It's mainly to keep me contactable at all times, something that is a requirement when caring for children. Also it means our own 'children ' have access to us to at all times too. As previously mentioned it is a constant link to family members care lines.:):dbgrtmb:

I hardly use my laptop or desktop computer nowadays. I have two tablets( one on charge, while other one is in use).I use them to do all online stuff... nothing financial, that is definitely desktop. I get all my magazines online and all my library books are e-books. NHS bookings and reminders are online, even get weekly online reminders telling us when and which bin to put out for collection.:)
