WHAT'S BUZZING OR FLYING NEAR YOU 2020

Grey Wagtail.

 

Corn Bunting, a once common farmland bird which has declined by more than 60% and still declining due to intensive farming causing habitat loss. Very few in Dorset.

Possibly Asian Red Crowned Cranes and Ruddy Shelducks. Where were you?

 

Spotted Pigeon, saw some in Hong Kong and Sydney last May.
Yes a common House Sparrow and a Bulbul possibly buff Vented similar to ones I saw in Kuala Lumpur.

Looked again at the distant flying bird and you can just see the forked tail so it would more than likely be a Black Kite as they are all over Asia and Australasia, Africa and Southern Europe, may colonise UK in the future.

 

We are experiencing a January thaw in upstate New York. Last week the lakes were frozen and people were ice fishing, this week there is open water, and we had a record high day in the 70s last weekend. I photographed this duck enjoying the open water and mild temperatures today. It is an American Black duck, but why it is called a Black Duck is a mystery to me.

 

I have a good selection and number of birds visiting my garden but only two Robins. This shot was taken through glass.

 

Guessing there will be only two as the males are very territorial. Btw did you know that Robin's sing at night? I only learnt that recently, listened out for it and its beautiful.

 

Wow, your robins are totally different to ours! I'll have to wait a few months to get a picture of ours because very few overwinter here.
