Ooh that looks a lovely honeysuckle @Sheal . You’ll have to share piccies when it’s grown. :spinning:

Acht. I had a lovely but cold day pottering in the garden today. Planning a few jobs for tomorrow. Then the snow started. Best laid plans and all that

I was given a garden centre voucher and a bit of cash for xmas. I bought the 2 big terracotta pots I had been looking at for a year or more. My camelia and pieris should now have the room to flourish.

Thank you all, for your kind thoughts and wishes.

I often say that I have stamped on my butt. Made by Dunlop. I bounce back.:autlvs:

Thanks for the teddy bear Upsy. Val was fond of these and even now, several are still where she left them.

Managed a few minutes in the GH, but it's bitterly cold here. Back in the warm and I had a phone call from an old friend in OZ.

Started off some seeds - Lobelia; Sweet Pea; Echincacea and Delphinium - run out of seed trays.

Narrowly avoided a severe roasting - as I had just finished hoovering up the bits of compost and put the hoover away....

I wanted to get more done in the garden today, but...

We were forecast rain all day, instead we had sunshine - but the windchill brought the supposedly mild 6c down to a numbing 2c. Still, I managed to hand-cut another couple of sections of hedge, weeded around some fruit trees, cleared couch grass off some emerging bulbs, and freed up some daffodil shoots that were being smothered by my mis-placed bean-poles.

                    Time for that cuppa!!:coffee:

Well, my Sister postponed her monthly shopping trip in Shrewsbury today, for which I am the Chauffeur, due to feeling a bit "off colour" so, because there was plenty of sunshine, blue skies, and very little breeze I revised my plans. Armed with a Body Warmer, to help keep out the 43f temperature, Secateurs, Scissors, Sharp Knife, Trowel, and Fork, I got the climbing Rose "Bathsheba" which was in a pot sitting on the Patio and took it to the West Border where the "Madame Lemoine" Lilac is. I had my mucky gardening trousers on but knelt on a waterproof mat to make it more comfortable as I started to dig a hole for the Rose to sit in. First I had to cut back some huge Hellebores that were encroaching into the planting area and a Eccremocarpus Scaber Flame that has been climbing through the Lilac for years. There was also some variegated Ivy starting to establish itself in the border, so that will get the "Chemical treatment" as soon as I get time. I moved a Pieris in a large pot which was nearby sitting in the border and moved it to a better site where it will get more Sun.
So, with the Rose planted I got off my knees, stuffed the cuttings of Hellebore and Eccremocarpus into a garden sack and started on cutting and pulling off the huge nest of growth of the around 60 Clematis that was clinging to the Trellis entrance to the garden. It took a while to pull, tug, persuade, the Clematis after cutting them all at the base but in the end I now have three big garden sacks full. My two large Compost Bins are full of fresh compost, paper, carboard etc but it seems to collapse and reduce quite quickly so I'll wait awhile before adding the three sacks to the Bins.
I've got plans to prune all the Roses in the borders hard back this weekend as well as dig up half of the Phlomis to make more space in the "walk around border". While walking around the garden I came up to the huge, old, Garrya "James Roofe" and, although I've shown it in pics on GC, you have to see it's real, full beauty with it's 6" to 8" long Tassels with your own eyes. It's such a fantastic Shrub.:love30::yes:

Very cold wind here, been gradually increasing in strength all day, and a few sleety showers. Kept birds topped up with food and water and managed around half hour working on bun run.

@Mike Allen glad to hear you are feeling a little bit brighter. You sound like you are feeling a somewhat alone and isolated perhaps and no wonder you feel fed up with added health issues too. I do understand how frustrating the cat problem must be. I personally don't agree with cats being allowed to roam free and wreak havoc on wildlife and gardens. I have a cat and he is not allowed to cause murder and mayhem. Have you tried any cat deterrents at all?

Thanks for your comment. Yes I have tried most of what's on offer. We had a cat once. It was daughter No. 1's left to us. Val, my late wife caught it crossing the road into the park. Amber, the cat got a good ticking off. Strange but true. Amber never went beyond our garden after that.

What does annoy me is. Folk get a pet, and that's it. Animals just don't get the message. Use a condom. Fair do's. Vets really cash in here. Sorry Tom. Snip. that will cost your owner £80 or sorry missy. Your speying will cost your boss £150. Some years back. I volunteered as a home vetter for FOAL farm, an animal rescue center. It wa supto me to check the possible suitability of the adopters home etc. Then to ask. Are you prepared to have the animal neutered or speyed?

Sadly most only wanted a pet for the kids. Hey mum. Have you seen tiggles today. No love. Last I saw of her was two weeks ago. Meanwhile, tiggles has been out and about. He has really enjoyed himself. Hey ho. twelve virgins and a couple of well cultivated gardens to plunder and crap in. Hey! this is the life.
Dog owners at one time had to licence their dog Seven and six pence.

I love animals of all kinds, but comes the time when you need to protect your homestead.

Someone needs to tell that to the rats and rabbits as well.

When Oscar the cat adopted us he rarely left the garden (didn't come into the house) and the rats, rabbits, foxes, badgers and deer all kept away. He welcomed hedgehogs and all birds (except hawks) with whom he got on very well. Those were the days! :) :cat-kittyandsmiley:

You're lucky, they don't survive the winter here.

I was too busy to do anything out there yesterday but hope to get out there today - once the frost has gone. It looks as though we're in for a sunny day. :blue thumb:
