What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

Mowed the lawns today. It wasn't as bad a job as I expected and looks much better now. I then removed a couple of shelters from Agaves in readiness for the storm. It looks like they'll get wet over the next few days but I didn't fancy the shelters chances in 70mph winds

 

Spent the afternoon battening down the hatches, making sure everything is secure ready for the storm. Hope none of my trees snap!

 

I've been out but hubs did the same too @Snorky85 , went as far as removing some fence panels too as we're in a wind tunnel anyway!
I'll keep everything crossed for your trees

 

Indoors gardening again. Started the houseplant propagation project with 9 pots of Tradescantia, 5 of Pothos, 5 of peppermint scented Pelargonium and 3 of the whatsitsname one in the kitchen. Then I ran out of both compost and windowsills (whoever built a house with just 9 windowsills! ) and had to stop propagating and focus on repotting.

The Orchids are done, not that they needed anything rootwise but the pots were so unstable that I had to buy bigger ones and put some stones in to balance the top heavy growth.

I also repotted The Fern, also known as The Cube (after being on a narrow windowsill growing towards the light, turned, repeat, repeat.) Normally, I snub any houseplant advise based on calendar "water once a week" "re-pot once every two years" but after spending a good half an hour wrestling the Cube Fern out of its pot I admit that yearly re-potting might have been a good idea.

Played Mother Nature on the Dragonfruit cactus plant that was last watered in October. I took it into the shower to give a good soak not just for the compost but also for the stems and the plentiful of aerial roots the monster is growing. I'd like to think the plant thinks it's raining.

 

While I was out hubby cut some more of the holly tree back and bagged it all up to take to the recycling tip tomorrow morning.

 

No gardening other than battening down the hatches in preparation for Storm Ceira. She has arrived, pretty wild out there right now. Checked on the little Wrens twice before getting into bed.

My good deed today was a Starling who required a quiet place to sleep off the major headache he/she undoubtedly had from colliding with the conservatory window.

 

Nothing done outside, but lots of chilli seeds sown (130, to be exact)...

 

This morning during the windy and snowy conditions I have been laying a base made from old house bricks to accommodate my raised salad bed.
Next job is to order the timber so I can start building the rectangular raised bed.

 

Repaired fence panels but it is still very windy with heavy rain showers now so I'm glad I got it done this morning.

 

The wind did cause a bit of damage across the country, pleased its subsided slightly.

 

Well, you did have to keep those two hiding poppets company!
