I think much of day to day hygene is a matter of common sense. As the saying goes,'A little bit of dirt never hurt anyone' Some IMO can go overboard at times.

Despite Upsydaisy having such back problems, I honestly sympathise for all those, especially forum members, who have to endure daily many health problems. For folk not having to use the loo away from home. I say they are somewhat fortunate. Sad to say we share this planet with some people who not only have little or no self respect but also none for fellowman. Thus public loos can be a haven of infection. Sad for me, my medical whatever also includes colitis & IBS. Many's the time, I start the car and have to return hurredly back indoors.

Knock wood, I am not on any doctors medications for anything. I take some herbs for arthritis, that is it. after much research found herbals that do the trick to help my arthritis. Lots of medications have side effects. My doctor at my yearly physical says I am rare for my age not to be on anything. Yep, would love to loose 10 lbs, but that is it. Hoping with this retirement soon my increased activity outside will do the trick.

Over the years I have practiced NOT putting my hands near my face. and always washing my hands after touching too many things. Lots of folks out there don't practice cleanliness, so you have to be your own advocate.

It's been reported on the Media, Scrungee, that the young, the old and the frail are the sectors most likely to have severe or fatal effects.

That's because they didn't, Redstar:wallbanging: I guess they needed to maintain services, such as food, engineering etc, but they were slow to organise replacements who would have been wearing protective equipment. Also the Japanese Official in charge of the quarantine operation removed her protective clothing after a while saying she was probably infected............but then carried on her duties on board. So if she was infected she could have been re-infecting other people on board:hate-shocked: Also, they're releasing passengers into Japan who aren't showing signs of the infection but could be infected as the virus doesn't "show" for up to a week..............how stupid is that??

You are correct about the crew
Crew are reluctant to report sick, as straight away their wages stop, as no longer working
Most of the crew are poor young Philipinos or Indians. So I can hardly see them jumping to the sickbay, more likely to brave it out as not having any chest / cold trouble

Crew on Cruise ships are treated like hell, very very low wage, topped up with a share of the passengers compulsory tips.
If for some reason, they are unable to complete the full fifty two week contract (even having done 50) they go home with not a penny of any tips

                        I probably shouldn't be glib about this but it does have its upside. With my better half being at university in London I'm using the Oxford Tube bus service a lot now and it frequently ends up with large groups of young foreign students getting on at Marble Arch or Shepherds Bush. Now as a miserable sod I hate sharing my seat so the trick is now as follows;
                        • Keep plenty of tissues handy
                        • As you approach the above stops make a few perfunctory blows of the nose.
                        • Leave the spent tissues in plain sight on the seat next to me
                        • In the event that a group does start boarding 'cough' and 'sneeze' freely discarding more tissues.
Strangely, I always end up sat alone!!! It seems to me that thanks to social media the young appear to be especially obsessed by this outbreak and can border on paranoid about it.

So when your other half is on the tube at the same time, do you make her sit behind you?

Over here, it is mostly people who have "Oriental" (sorry if I offended anyone but it best describes actual experience) facial features who wear a mask. No one else bothers. Being in a suburb certainly lowers the risk of exposure too.

And yes, cleanliness and not using public loos where possible is wise. I am figuring out how to list to the left in order to make room for a fuller bladder. . Got to get to the two spritzer mark so I'm home before needing a visit

From what I understand from an media interview a Medical Professor from a UK University the masks being worn are pretty useless except for keeping their own germs and breath in, but no good for keeping a virus out.:dunno::wallbanging::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

This whole situation is so distressing. In my humble way. I tend to believe, it's new to us and like most things in life, we have to face upto it and do our best.

I have a very good friend. Prof. The Hon. Richard Tedder. He is a virologist and perhaps he could enlighten me, but would I be any better off?

Yes I really do feel for those poor folk who have proved positive etc. We must hope and pray for their recovery. I have perhaps commented in relation to sometimes feeling like a stranger in my own country. This is down to worldwide events. I really do feel for anyone who has to uproot and go to a foreign land. However that's todays situation.
