Lovely pictures. A very beautiful and peaceful place. I like very much indeed.

Of course, if you have walked down off the fells it can be fairly cold or windy up there whereas you can sunbathe if you're sheltered at lake level. :blue thumb: At the lakeside it could be a bit drafty if there's a wind blowing along the lake.

The mountain in the middle rear of the second photo is Haystacks, where Alfred Wainwright's ashes are scattered - at Innonimate Tarn. :blue thumb:

Ooooo I had forgotten about this thread so I'm taking you back to the place in my opening post Gorgeous Winchester, how very lucky are we to have the ancient Capital of England just down the road from us.

In a moment of sheer madness we decided to climb up ( not literally as there are paths and steps albeit very steep ones!!) to the top of St Giles Viewpoint this morning. Once up there the reward for your efforts are breathtakingly ( now this is literally :heehee::phew:) beautiful views over the city.

St Giles Hill - Winchester - Parks & Gardens

There's a plaque up there that shows you what you can actually see in past and present images . Key places are numbered and most can still be seen today, a few are now ruins but nevertheless still interesting if ,like me, you love ancient local history.

We took a more scenic way back down exchanging the tarmac pathways and steep cobbled steps for narrow unmade up stoney trails . A tad unnerving at times if like me you had dodgy legs.....but I had my knight in shining armour with me so all was ok :dbgrtmb:.

We then walked a short way along The Itchen Navigation Path back into town which is a joy to do at anytime of year. 20230609_121315.jpg 20230609_121654.jpg 20230609_121753.jpg 20230609_121858.jpg 20230609_121958.jpg

After feeling refreshed and rejuvenated we had a quick browse through the street and farmers markets as we headed to the main park . The fragrance from the roses was absolutely amazing !! We found a shady spot and ended our day out with an hour of heady perfumed filled air. The perfect end to a perfect but hot day. :phew::SUNsmile: 20230609_140527.jpg 20230609_140436.jpg 20230609_140415.jpg 20230609_140357.jpg 20230609_140340.jpg 20230609_140329.jpg 20230609_140307.jpg 20230609_140256.jpg 20230609_134850.jpg 20230609_134855.jpg 20230609_134839.jpg :yahoo:

A lovely tour for us @Upsydaisy, thank you. :) Winchester's a place I 've never visited and not likely too now...so much history I've missed out on there.

It's a long time since I visited the Lake District Freddy, and only partly see it now when driving through heading south.
