When I get back to Belgium, @NigelJ , you will have to tell me what I need to do to my two plants. The pitcher plant is thinning down now (note to self - need to remind hubby to water them!), but the honeydew hasn’t stopped growing at all....

Spent an hour or so being blown about in the garden today.

Potted on some Fuchsia Boliviana and Boliviana alba, along with some tradescantia which will be used with the bedding in the tubs.

Then braved the outside. Its not major surgery but I'm widening a border to give me more tropical planting space. The blue line is roughly where the border will extend to. Ive moved some grasses to start the changes - they are at the nearest point to the table and will take a bit of abuse with people standing on them. The grasses will have Canna brazilliensis mingled in to give a bit of height and then the deeper part of the extended border will have mainly annuals planted. Its a work in progress but this is the aim.

From the other end ….. I can still get my wheelbarrow around the palm tree

Just come in after 3 hours in the garden, my ears are ringing and one really aches...boy is the wind blowing!!

Trimmed back a couple of Hydrangeas, re- homed some Crocus escapees , divided up some spent Snowdrops, did lots of dead heading of the Bellis, Primroses , Primulas , Viola and Pansies.

Gave a couple of shrubs a dose of Epsom Salts. Went on a slug hunt too.:dbgrtmb:

Although the temperature was only 46f it was a very Springlike day, with plenty of Sun and blue skies and no breeze, so I had a quiet sit on the Patio soaking in the Sun while I took in the hundreds of green shoots shooting out of the border soil, and the chatter of the birds waiting for me to top up the Bird Feeders. I had an amble down to the Arbour to check on it and maybe sit in it so that I could watch the birds from another position, but it was too damp to sit , so I just checked the Honeysuckle and Climbing Roses clinging up it's sides.
The birds chattering was quite high so I decide to top up the Feeders and also introduced a
new Niger Bird Feder to hang on the Lilac as an experiment to see if it works.
Having done that, I noticed the temperature dropping, and looking up saw the skies were becoming a cold light grey, and the Sun disapearing behind the approaching clouds, so I headed for the Kitchen and a cup of Coffee.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

I am feeling fragile today ( self inflicted :rolleyespink: )so I've only opened the Greenhouse door the sun made a rare appearance today :wow:, its far to wet to be in the garden anyway. I did prick out my pelaragoniums seedling out yesterday / friday and other seeds are germinating :).

The weather for the rest of the week looks shocking so I doubt I'll be doing in the garden this week either :frown:

Can't see them managing to stop that happening round here. :noidea: There's no other way to dispose of the large amount of wood and debris that our gardens produce. The local authority won't take it and there isn't a council dump anywhere near us. The farmers around here are always having big bonfires as well. We've had a lot of branches down in the winds over the last couple of weeks, which I cleared up, and I've already collected another lot just from yesterday.

As soon as the wind drops I shall be burning it - after doing the usual running of a pole through the bottom of the heap about a dozen times and then going round bashing it with the back of the spade. I don't remember hedgehogs ever having used the heap for hibernating but we have had rabbits digging their warrens under there. I think the heap is topped up too often for the hedgehogs to settle in.

I wish they would ban them ,can't abide bonfires!! Get them almost daily from the allotments.
We have a really good shredder that can cope with fair size branches, but anything too big gets loaded onto the trailer and taken a bit of a distance away to a dump site. :)

I love bonfires :) but only have them when the wind is blowing towards the field - as do most of the neighbours.

I don't have a shredder as there is no room left in my shed, the ones big enough to do what comes down from our trees are too expensive and the size of branches are too difficult for me to feed into a shredder. I can drag them to the bonfire but not lift some of them up :dunno:. We don't have a trailer and the nearest dump, 15 mile round trip on very congested roads, won't take them. So neighbours that do have trailers don't take them either.

We have about 50 or 60 trees (sadly lost or had to remove all the rest) and I love trees. We lost a number of them in the hurricane of '87 and more of them are getting a bit old. We're down to only two poplars now .

Thanks for the watering advice @Logan. Now I can actually get into the greenhouse I will go and give them a water. Yesterday I went outside about 7am and started sowing the salvia viridis blue monday (which were fab last year) seeds into the jiffy cells I soaked. No more jiffy cells left, but got a bag of seedling compost, so going to go out again shortly and do some of the nicotiana seeds. They're both seeds I've saved from last year so I do hope they do ok.

Also will have a wander up to the lotty later and take my teabags and egg shells etc up to my new composter that I've put up there. I'm really pleased with it. Not only was it £4, but my neighbour gave me some fresh horse poop that I've also put in the base. I'm really trying to be more environmentally friendly this year.

Didn't get chance to do anything in the actual garden yesterday, the storm in the morning was terrible. Late afternoon in the break from the storm I managed to take the dogs out for a decent walk - poor mutts were getting cabin fever. Wind and rain are starting up again this morning. Ugh.
