In the UK 60% ABV would be 105° proof. The likes of Waitrose Everyday Vodka isn't strong enough.

Proof is different to Alcohol by Volume. In the UK 70° proof is 40% ABV (but 35% ABV in the US).

Yes, I agree that this rush to buy up all the sanitary supplies is nutty @Loofah . And they say handwashing beats sanitizer every time. I still see people in the grocery store wearing those masks too and I shop during the day when there is hardly anyone there. Doesn't make sense at all.

Bizarrely, local media are reporting that shops are running out of handwash and that includes the enormous mega store ASDA a couple of miles away. Some people really are strange.

Seems the Anti Bacterial Hand Gels do offer some protection against viruses, as long as the product contans 60%+ of alochol / ethonal.

Lots of web sites quoting medical folk saying so , though that could be fake news ??
