Quick trip out to a garden planter factory shop this morning. Bought some large planters and some smaller planters. Paid and the chap said that there were some more planters that were damaged that I could take. I didn't need asking twice.
Well worth a visit if you are local - Naylor Factory Shop at Cawthorne.

Planted my colocasias this afternoon and put them in the bathroom to kick them into life early.

Then found space in two propagators and filled them with Ptilotus Exaltus Joey Pink Mulla Mulla, sweet peppers and Ipomoea Lobata seeds. Let the growing season commence.

Edit : Wife took a pic when they were taken out of the car. Square planters £3, low planters £9, straight terracotta £15 and curved terracotta £20 each

          :hate-shocked::runforhills::runforhills::runforhills::runforhills::heehee:

The day was so warm, (57f), that I started off in the garden in the Green House potting on so more Nectaroscordum bulbs, making up two buckets of a mixture of General Purpose Compost, Sand and Potting Grit, partly for the potting on and partly for other jobs outside.
I'd put on my mucky gardening clothes as I sensed that I would be out in the garden for a few hours so with Trowel, and Gardening Hand Fork in hand I started working in the borders again. Things are definitely on the move in the borders with green shoots poking up everywhere so they got a close inspection as I looked for any rogue shoots of Couch Grass but, happily, I couldn't find any:hapydancsmil: Down by the bottom of the garden I found a Hellebore, planted last year, putting out new growth with plenty of space around it, so I found two pots of Hellebore "Golden Lotus" on the Patio and planted those beside it.
I quite like Celandines and I have two forms of it in the garden, one with yellow flowers and green leaves and one with black leaves and white flowers. But every now and then it gets out of hand and while planting the Hellebores I noticed that there were large patches of it around the Acer Brilliantissimum and also some in the lawn area. My answer to that was to get my favourite Hoe, which was given to me, and I know to be over a hundred years old, and just cut through the top growth. Since that area is also full of Ferns, Hellebores, Snowdrops, Crocus and Cyclamen I'm pretty sure that some Celandines are still hiding among them.....but I'll get them later!!
I did a bit of quick weeding on the West Border, but I know I'll be back there to do a proper job another day.
Getting an empty builders bucket I went back onto the Patio and, with an old bent Dinner Fork, started to deweed the nearly sixty large pots of Bearded Iris, pots of Lupins, Buddleja, Lavender, and other pots that needed weeding. After weeding the pots of Bearded Iris I got one of the buckets of compost, sand and potting grit and used all of it to top up the pots that needed it. After that, because the day was still warm and dry, I had a sit on the Patio and just enjoyed the Bird song and a warm Springlike day.

Finally the weather agreed and I was able to spend a full day outabouts. :) It wasn't snowing at least.

Cleared the spent stems of the perennial plants, feeling slightly guilty as my Finnish Nana always told me to leave them until May to protect the young shoots from the unpredictable spring weather. I did challenge the situation by pointing out that surely exposed, dark soil will heat up better than one covered by a layer of dead stems, but obviously Nana was The Boss. So April in Finland, March in the UK .

Started on Spring Project of making a good sized raised bed to grow some eadibles on the patio. We had this quite large metal cage for our Degus standing in the garage, so I had a brilliant idea of turning it into a large raised bed.

After some hours of wrestling the front and internal bits out of the main frame, with several pricks from the rusty bits (and a brief wondering if the latest Tetanus booster was on this Millennium), weaving the bottom in with metal garden wire ah voila, here's my new raised bed!

I lined the sides with some sturdy plastic (free from my blowaway greenhouse that did just that, and after complaining the company sent me a new one. The New Blowaway is fine with duck tape reinforcement and the old one is providing an endless supply of building material. ) with a plan to line the bottom with surplus root membrane I have.

After completing that, with Mr Blackbird singing his heart out on me, I realised that actually I have a makeshift cold frame. If makeshifts come in degrees, mine is very near the top

But there it is, with the remaining bit of plastic on top and spring onions sown in pots.

            Hello Spring :)

Exciting things have been happening in the front garden. Fencing is going up!

I've finished the ground work. I can't do any more until I buy the bark chippings. Hopefully that will be at some point this week.

It must be my lucky day. After measuring carefully and then cutting my weed suppression fabric in the wrong place, I discovered that the 2 piece I had cut, between them, fitted the space perfectly. I was chuffed to bits. Especially as that was the end of the roll.

Later in the day I was throwing away some junk from the shed and I found this on the thrown away pile.

I have no idea how it got there. I guess at some point it had been thrown out and the pot reused.

Well today is the day..finally sorting out the greenhouse and doing a lot of chucking out as I go. Sprucing it up before continuing with the seed sowing as it's getting a tad crowded indoors now!!:heehee:

That is A Cat, Gary. A sort of a feline thing. And the plant on the right is a lovely Hellebore, pot it up somewhere, the colour is just lovely. :)

The forecast rain didn’t materialise, apart from a 5 min hailstorm, so I managed to do the first grass cut of the year, plus a trug-full of weeds from the drive and soak-away gravel.

Definitely in need of that cuppa!

Nope we've got it!!! And the day started off so promising too.

Well half the greenhouse looks tidier , trouble is the other side has now got a double lot of mess!!!

Sorted out lots of cell trays and pots. Sadly found a load more unnamed bulbs . So more pot luck planting will have to be done.

Braced the terrible weather and got bed 3 out of 4 sieved at the allotment, with half a bucket of potatoes coming out in the process. Just about had time to have a test run putting the Wilko frame I bought together, we'll see how it survives out in the elements before potentially getting another.

Due to the drop in temperature, 43f, and a cold stiff breeze I decided the Green House was the best place to be. I potted up three new arrived Colocasia "Black Magic" and then I did a job I've been wanting to do, but never done, which was to pot on what I think is a form of Haworthia. The plant is now nearly 12 inches across and consists of many rosettes but was in a pot of less than half a litre so I moved it into a 3 litre pot and it looks a lot better although the nearly 12 inch top of rosettes overlaps the top of the pot!!
After that I refilled the Bird Feeders and saw that the main Bird Bath was in need a major clean but unfortunately it then started to rain, so I'll clean it out tomorrow if the weather improves. I've still got 50 Gladiola to plant but keep forgetting to do so, so I'll move them into the Green House where they will remind me to do the job.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:
