What Jobs Are We Doing In The Garden Today 2020

Oh gosh!!!! I have Glads tucked away in our porch cupboard ...forgot all about them!

 

Over done it again...will probably go stiff/achey tomorrow.

Weeded front garden - carefully - to avoid digging up new rudbekia and echincacea - started at 9 - finished about 11.

Mowed back lawn - edging and grabbing handfuls of grass from between the new Laurel hedge - moved patio set from top lawn to patio area - and pressure washed clean - started at 11 finished at 1.30 - all energy gone...

Need some canes to support a hibiscus in the front - so will nip down to the allotment tomorrow to pick it up. Tomorrow's allotment work likely to consist mainly of supping tea and chatting to the other allotment holders.

 

That's about all I can do for now. I have squashed it down the best I could but it still a bit springy. I shall be at work for the next 3 days so it should have time to settle down. If I have time at the weekend I will have another go at it. Either way, I am happy with it. Once it has settled down I can start thinking about planting around it.

Pricked out the snapdragon seedlings into cell trays, 108 so far.

 

Fighting a snapdragon and foxglove invasion at a previous house means I have a bit of an issue with these plants. Pity as they look great in the borders

 

The fencing is well underway today. So exciting but I think the builders might be getting fed up of me going out and watching but they know why I’m so excited about it.

also got a two bulk bag delivery of plantgrow organic soil conditioner and they gave me to bottles of plant food free extra That’s ready to get digging it all in!

 

Cut off the old flowering stems from some more of the lavender, just got a few more to do.

 

One side done, just the inside to do tomorrow and they’re painting it too. Been walking round with a huge beaming grin on my face today

 

Seems to be the fencing season.



The two tall panels were previously a full panel and two half panels held in with wooden posts. I installed these to stop the previous dogs running down the drive and scattering the pebbles as they stopped. Old fence in the background and an idea of the dogs runway.






After installing the 'dog catcher' we had other panels installed to stop the dogs getting around the back of the house and to use the side as a veg patch. This meant the gravel boards needed 'stretching' and two panels to be custom made about 6" longer for the new fence to butt up to the wall and side fence.

Now gives me more room to grow climbers

Sowed some more seeds
Last year it did well but it didn't reach the height that it said on the packet but it was the first time that I've grown them.

Last year the variety that i planted didn't flower but a lot of foliage. This one doesn't grow so tall so hopefully it will flower.
Also I've sown Calendula Daisy May it grows to 8in good for under the roses, Tomatoes sweet million and cucumber la diva very good one for the conservatory/greenhouse.

 

I’ve started to top up the top raised veg bed, I think it will take many, many bags of compost!

I then weeded the top bed a little, planted around 50 snowdrops in the green, in clumps, and weeded my little woodland area. Nettles, ivy and buttercup were joining the grass interlopers. It looks so much better now, with the wood anemone and buttercups “jumping out” at you, amongst the tete-a-tetes and normal daffs. Fingers all tingling from pulling out nettle runners!
