Oh, we agree on nearly all the things, Upsydaisy, honestly.:love30: It's just that I don't see the point of having post mortem's, sorry for the awful pun, on such situations as it is merely food for the Media and the Politicians and can undermine the effectiveness of steps being taken to fight the virus. I would rather deal with the "here and now" and get on with taking the right decisions regarding getting all the apparatus and people in the right place and the right numbers.

For the very reason that they are in their early 70's. Upsdaisy. Being marathon runners and cyclists does not make them immortal:dunno: Let's take a hypothetical case, say one of your doctor/cyclists friends came to you and asked if they should go back to help out in the crisis and you said "Yes"......so they do, and weeks later they died from the Virus by being in close contact with a patient suffering from Covid 19........how would you feel?
What if it was a member of your family, who might be in their 70's, and you gave them the same advice and they suffered from the same fate........?? I do not think the answer is to ask people, doctors and nurses or not, in their early 70's, knowing that they are at greater risk to step back into an area where the Virus doesn't care whether they are Doctor or Nurses. Don't forget that in many other countries Doctors and Nurses in their 40's and 50's have already died from treating patients with Covid 19.
What I'm basically saying that such a decision is a personal thing but should not be taken as a duty or being taken by the public as that is what a Doctor or Nurse should do.
Whilst serving abroad in the rif raf, I was shot at several times by people I didn't know:dunno::wallbanging:, and being young, stupid, and fit it was all a risk that we took without thinking. Now that I'm :old: And not so fit and nimble I wouldn't consider it a risk I, personally, should take. I still work as a Consultant to 5 Crown Court Judges but now do so at Home, using the Computer for video conferencing and work. I have to confess that although I miss the closeness of actually being in the Courts, I find working from Home to be far safer considering the present national virus crisis.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Thank you but at the moment no one is going to visit us, hubby's sister isn't visiting because of it and none of mine. My immune system is in good shape, never get the flu and i don't kiss or cuddle anyone except hubby. But hubby has got a cold and it always goes on his chest. I might catch his cold or i might not.

Would you really want to be on a ventilator made by a car manufacturer with no experience of making them?
More seriously were are they going to get the components from for the extra ventilators who ever makes them. A lot of the parts come from China and other countries with a greater degree of shutdown then the UK.
Also cleanliness; car factories might be pretty clean these days, but medical equipment is typically assembled in clean rooms under aseptic conditions.

Of course not, you just need to produce the original, the one with the proper signature and the big seal on the bottom.

Dear @ARMANDII ....I would never ask anything of anyone.... even my lovely sons, everyone has a right to do what they choose.

If either of our friends wanted to help, why when perfectly fit and healthy should they not be allowed to?

You seem to forget that it was the Government that suggested reinstating retired Drs and nurses.... not me!:heehee:,
Sadly agree no one is immortal.

I understand health care workers are at a higher risk....but ..and this applies to all chosen careers.... as I said earlier it was their right to choose.

This does not alter the respect I have for them or any other 'front line ' worker in any way at all. Just felt the need to clarify this!:dbgrtmb:

Re bringing back retired medical workers, it would be logical if they helped patients without the virus thus freeing younger staff to man the front line. Every little helps.

Exactly, and I think this is where the whole thing breaks down, what they are suggesting is unrealistic.
Its like they said earlier in Spain, its in "lockdown", but you can still go to work and do shopping, so its not in "lockdown" they just dont want you taking unnecessary journeys or mixing with other people if you can help it.

You will have to lie about your age @Jiffy ;)
