Corona Virus Treatment

A very strange day. First thing was messaged from work that our office is now closed until further notice and all staff have to work from home. Same has happened to my daughter. Also my youngest's University has closed its doors and all future lessons will be online. She is coming home on Friday, but for how long? Who knows, could be months or maybe a year or more! We are in this for the the long haul.

Going to order some building materials tomorrow so I can keep my DIY projects going with all this new found spare time.

 

@CanadianLori my great niece is at Ottawa University and that has also closed it's doors and having lectures online.

 

I'm semi-self isolating . I'm distancing myself and only going out for essentials and walks. We can walk without meeting anyone.

We have now had three offers of assistance from younger people but they're already struggling a bit because they have young kids. If I can't get needed supplies (mainly food) whilst keeping distance then I shall see if I can avail myself of their services. Hopefully night time shopping won't be too busy and I shall be able to keep a few metres away from people. There's normally almost nobody around when I go shopping. I guess that around 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. may be the quietest.

Tomorrow will be an exception as I have to take Mrs Shiney for a medical appointment (there will be no others around as they are single appointments) so I shall have a quick look in the Morrisons nearby. If they're busy I shall leave it.

From now on it will distance keeping. I have the person that helps us with the heavy work in the garden coming on Friday. We have agreed, by email, that I shall leave a list of tasks, and the money, for him but we won't have the usual chat and cuppa. He is lucky, to the extent that he doesn't need contact to carry on his work as he can't work from home.

I've already cooked and frozen enough food for a few weeks. Hopefully the food acquisition position will have settled down by then and we can get others to do it for us.

 

Message from Sainsbury's - but I reckon the others will do something similar

"A number of you suggested that we reserve an hour in stores for elderly and vulnerable customers. In response to this request, we will set aside the first hour in every supermarket this Thursday 19th March, for elderly and vulnerable customers. I hope that you can respect this decision and will work with us as we try our best to help those that need it the most. If you or an elderly family member, friend or neighbour would like to shop during this hour, please check online for your local supermarket opening hours.

We will also help elderly and vulnerable customers access food online. From Monday 23rd March, our online customers who are over70 years of age or have a disability will have priority access to online delivery slots. We will contact these customers in the coming days with more details.

For any online customer who can travel to our stores, from Monday 23rd March, we will operate an expanded 'click and collect' service. We are significantly increasing the number of collection sites across the country over the coming days in preparation for this. Customers can place their order online as usual and pick it up from a collection point in the store car park. We believe this will also work for people who are self-isolating.

As we work to feed the nation, we are also focusing all of our efforts on getting as much food and other essential items from our suppliers, into our warehouses and onto shelves as we possibly can. We still have enough food for everyone - if we all just buy what we need for us and our families.

To help us get more essential items onto the shelves, from this Thursday 19th March, we will be closing our cafes and our meat, fish and pizza counters in supermarkets. This means we can free up warehouse and lorry capacity for products that customers really need. It will also free up time for our store colleagues to focus on keeping the shelves as well stocked as possible.

I mentioned last week that we had put limits on a very small number of products. Following feedback from our customers and from our store colleagues, we have decided to put restrictions on a larger number of products. From tomorrow, Wednesday 18th March, customers will be able to buy a maximum of three of any grocery product and a maximum of two on the most popular products including toilet paper, soap and UHT milk. We have enough food coming into the system, but are limiting sales so that it stays on shelves for longer and can be bought by a larger numbers of customers."

 

I have a massive spike in my workload now which started yesterday, so I am already 5 hours up on my contracted hours for the week and no longer get that time paid for or back in lieu. I have a feeling though, that at some point, that workload spike will reduce quite significantly - the worry is if it stops completely.......

 

Good morning just been down Tescos and it was complete chaos people all with toilet rolls seem to be the order of the day,,fortunately only had to go to the fruit and veg which is just inside the door and I must say I don't feel at all vulnerable,but then again there 70 year olds going on 90 and then there are 70 year olds going on 40 who have always eat a well balanced diet and looked after themselves
